| Mine is just too slow -- so far 2000/20000, doesn't even show up when I check individual stauts. ![]()

| It only seems to register for every WU work unit. so when it reaches 20,000 it'll upload the completed work and enter your stats. at least I think thats how it works.

| HMMM... can someone explain this in easy to understand terms? Best I can tell from the forum is that if I put this on my computer, someone else has control of it and can use it to do research problems? And it may slow down my computer? Is this safe? Can my personal info be accessed? Please explain? SLKman

| "Best I can tell from the forum is that if I put this on my computer, someone else has control of it and can use it to do research problems?" Thats not the case. Basically the software you download simply processes default calculations on a package of information. when you start the program it'll go to the folding server and download the next work package to be calculated. there are 1000's of these packages that require processing. once the package has been downloaded the software starts to use idle cycles from your PC to process the work unit and doesn't go online again until this package is complete then it will upload the package and download another. nobody has control over anything on your computer the software is totally automatic and does not use any ports on your connection that are not already used for browsing. so in response; And it may slow down my computer? it will you computers resources when your not using them. I thought to turn it off when using program that require all my resources like photoshop and the latest 3D games, but I've forgot and didn't notice any slowdown. Is this safe? all it's doing is downloading, processing, uploading the folding data Can my personal info be accessed? this program doesn't efect in anyway information can be accessed on your pc. To add a little confidence, many high tech forums have folding teams like SLKworld. these include PC software programming teams. If these guys use it it make me trust it a little more.

| AFAIK - you get a short download, then the program will bag CPU idle time, which might take days, then when it's bin completed, there'll be a short upload time of the final results. Once you've got it on your pooter, it will (or can) remain offline, till it's finished thinking bout it (only using CPU Idle time) then have a couple of seconds upload time (next time u're online) - no hacking, viri (posh for viruses), AND can REALLY SAVE LIVES & SUFFERING. The more people who do it, the better the end resultS (capital, definitely plural) will be.

| Not sure Continental Airlines would like me doing that...Can U imagine having all these computers hooked up...Thousands of them!!! WHEW! IT guys have them blocked for us to download anything anyway. I read where Xbox 360 is the perfect computer for this. I have a 360, and 2 regular xbox's and a Playstation 2 all wireless connections but with 3 teenagers, they stay pretty busy. I'm exploring using them. This really is Cool. I see lots of teams out there keeping score of where they rank in the world. I bet SLKWorld will be in the top of the rankings before long! Can't wait to get home to get started! SLKman

| The consoles are out at the moment mate. They don't really have methods of installing applications. Well the original xbox does have a lot of homebrew/hacked software that allows you to install stuff, but it's all pretty technical. I'm sure i wouldn't be a huge probelem for Microsoft or sony to generate some software with a download, but that would be an investment for them and to be honest they are no google. Even google have pulled out of the folding team. They used to incorporate it as an option in their google desktop tool. I think they just got tired of updating it everytime the folding team updated their software.
