3M carbon vinyl

I ordered 4ft from eBay for $25, great material, very easy to work with,

it took me 40mins to finish the gear panel, 1 hour for the steering wheel, and 1 hour and 40 mins for the back trim covers,

Very nice cx872. What did you use to trim the edges to fit? Hobby knife? Did you leave a 1mm lip and then fold the film at edges or just trim right at the edge. Looks great

there are many sample project videos on Youtube, like this one,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz8SkOmwWwc

basically you just have to leave 1 inch margin on each side, cover the front properly,
heat the film with a hair dryer to soften it, then wrap it around the edge and cut out the excess,
except for the steering wheel control buttons, you have to trim right at the edge otherwise they wont work,
if anyone is planing to do the same project I highly recomened to do the gear panel first, since it was the easiest one,
or cut out a smaple piece and kinda play with it, I try it on my notebook mouse before I start to work on my car,

This looks great!!! Only $40 to do ALL THAT!!! I think I will do the same.

One question: Is this "peel and stick and cut"? Or do I need to get some kind of glue?

Thanks.

WOW! Nice work. I think they look great without being gaudy or over the top. The application looks sanitary and fit your interior very nicely.

I've thought about using some of that stuff on the front of our SLK, just for the small black section between the main parts of the lower chin spoiler.

I also think that the covering around the gear lever looks great. Just that would look cool, but the other mods look great too..

So I agree with all the comments above. Well done, nice job !

Thanks everyone !!

http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/cfwrap/
I brought the vinyl from this eBay seller, the listed buy-it-now price is $29.99,
but I send him an offer of $24.95 and he accepted it, so I got 4 sq ft for under $25 shipped

there are a few threads in the DIY section talks about how to remove the gear panel and the steering wheel switch covers, unfortunately I did not take any pic during the job,

Looks really great CX! Does the vinyl have a "texture" or is it smooth to the touch?

it is textured, not just a printed carbon fiber pattern,
and the quality is way better than I expect

here is a close up for the vinyl
