| this could turn into a novel, i'll try to keep it short. the wheels and tires came in yesterday so i got them mounted up i just had a few minutes after that before having to go back to work. the 2 mile drive to work was great! i loved the look of the new stuff and the ps2's felt great! well, today i went for a little joyride. damn it they rubbed, front & rear. the rear was during an uphill right turn with a small bump. later found the rubbing was on the channel that runs under the gas fill pipe and into the wheel well. the fronts both scraped on a straight as i was accelerating and hit a slight undulation in the road. i went back to the tire shop and after all was said and done, i'll be back there tomorrow going back to 18's (225/40/18 & 255/35/18). i did decide to go with chrome over the brushed alum look. i did this for many reasons, the most important of which is that i really like chrome (perhaps a throwback to my harley days). anyways here today's pix... ![]() ![]() |

| Congrats on the wheels! They look great. I am a little suprised you rubbed. Did you lower your car or is it stock? I'm just wondering if the 18's will rub too. It might be more of an issue with offset than width. The overall diameter should be about the same. Either way, hopefully the next set will be perfect. Fingers crossed for you.

| Interesting. Did the shop you purchased the wheels and tires from have any suggestions other than going back to the 18" wheels? Seems like a quick decision rather than trying to get the 19" wheels to work. Good luck, looking forward to a good side shot pic with the new wheels.

| Looks good, too bad you have to go back to 18", 19"s are perfect for the SLK's. Big enough to look agressive, but not big enough to look out of place. Keep looking, I'm sure you'll have a set of 19"s you like that'll fit. |

| ok, here's the latest in my saga... i went back to 18 inch wheels with 225/40's up front (stock size) and 255/35's out back (stock were 245/35). i got the same manufacturer and model of rim and tire. i'm surprised how 1 inch can make such a difference in appearance. it's dark out now and supposed to rain tomorrow so i don't know when i'll be posting pix. the car is stock height, but interestingly enough, cyberdrakon and i compared ride heights several weeks ago and mine was about an inch lower in the rear and we really couldn't figure out why. the shop felt they could fix the front scraping by rolloing the front part of the fender that isn't already rolled, but they really had no ideas for stopping it in the rear. the shop was was great! they saved me over $500.00 off list on the original set up (19's). not only did the replace all of the 19 inch stuff with 18 inchers, but they refunded me over $350.00 for the smaller, less expensive goods. my hat is off to Tucker Tires on Front St. in Covina, CA. i've been known to change rims every couple of years so look for another change sometime in 08 or 09 (if i don't have a new car by then). |

| When choosing rims for your SLK make sure you use the amg rims that mb provides as a base design. Make sure your aftermarket rims go with the lines and provide an aggressive look for your SLK. Also, be practical, rims have to look good but remember, rims and tires is how your car moves so make sure that they are performance oriented rims {I.E lightweight}. |
