Default New recommended oil?

I just had the "A" service done at the Mercedes dealer in Hickory, N.C. Studying the parts list from the bill I noticed they had used an oil called
Mobil 1 ESP instead of Mobil 1 0-40 as in all previous oil changes. I called the Mobil toll free phone number and they told me that the ESP designation meant that the oil came from a 55 gallon drum but that it could be any weight. When I talked to the service people at the dealer yesterday they said that they were now using 5-40 oil as dictated by Mercedes. Has anyone heard of this new condition? It seems to me that the zero would have benefits at cold engine start-up that the 5 weight would not have. Any thoughts?

There are a range of oils that dealers are allowed to use in the 320 mate don't worry about it there are 5W-40's in the list its fine.

I very much doubt you will notice any difference at startup to be honest with you pal it would have to be very very cold.

Not sure about the 55 gallon drum bit i mean obviously i am not in a position to argue with the people who make the stuff but during my last fill-up for the SL the stuff we use is obviously Mobil 1 and it carries the ESP designation and it means Emission System Protection i think we have some small containers of the stuff laying about with the little logo on them there is nothing on the drums to show you but if i can find one of the small ones i will get you a piccy

Dan said it best. So little difference between 0W-40W and 5W-40W. I'm stickler for the details, but I wouldn't have been concerned with the difference. Good job with following up and questioning the dealer. That will keep the dealer on their toes.
