AMG Sport Package

I'm going to be looking at SLK 350s this weekend and having the optional AMG Sports Package is important to me, as is a manual transmission. I can easily tell if the offered car has a stick, but how can I visually tell if the Sports Package is installed?

Look at the bumper. It will look very similar to the 55 bumper. For pre-facelift cars that means like the one in etyu's signature picture.

I'm sure it is because I have not looked at enough of these cars yet, but the front bumpers on all the ones I am looking at seem to be the same.....fog lights, and an air intake between them. Am I missing something here?

The AMG package has front bumper fins, side skirts, smoked brake lights, QUAD exhaust and bonnet fins. AND IT SOUNDS AWESOME. Not to forget duck tail. ( little spoiler at the boot.) and white boot brake light. 6 pots front brake caliper, drilled and slotted rotors. AMG mags. 16 spark plugs. ( haha)

Have i left anything out?

Oh yes, 60 horses..

Why would you want the AMG package if you can't see the difference?

Easiest is probably to look at the side skirts, a flat side skirt is normal, a side skirt in 2 parts (typical AMG) is AMG package. The side skirt flows well with the sides of the rear bumper.

Hi Freddy.

You mentioned in another thread that the ///AMG package is important to you because you autocross. But you should know that for he most part the SLK350 with the AMG package is an appearance package only. Depending on the year it will also have sport suspension but other than that no difference in performance.

Steven

Here is what is included in the MY2014 sports package. The only non-cosmetic upgrade is the AMG wheels. It's pretty much the same story for previous model years.

Understood and hence my reference to previous model years. Was just attempting to reenforce Stinger's comment that the package was aimed at appearance, not performance.

As far as a proper transmission...I'm in my 60's and drove a stick since I learned how to drive way back in the middle of the 20th Century. Don't really miss it in this car one bit...but we can just agree to disagree.

Good luck finding a 350 manual with all the goodies including appearance package. You can always update the styling if you cannot find the "AMG package" as there are plenty of aftermarket available. When I was looking for my manual 350 I was hard pressed to just find the manual transmission. Which by the way is well worth the effort

The reason you want the Sport Package is apparently because you autocross it. Only a few things in the package would be important to you: larger wheels, stiffer and lower suspension, and button-shifters on the steering wheel. Since you are also looking for a manual transmission, the button-shifters don't come into the picture.

The other two things you can easily change yourself. Buy the car you like, then throw 18" wheels on it, lower it on some Eibach springs and Bilstein B8 shocks and you're good to go. The suspension will be nicer than the Sport Package.

Thanks for offering some clarity all. Yes it is the suspension I am looking for more than the AMG "look". But as the last poster mentioned I can upgrade that. I have only driven one of these car so far and it had the sports package. It cornered like it was on rails. I was able to take a full hairpin turn at a little over 45 mph with minimal back end slippage. That is what sold me. The owner said it was the suspension that did it and I kind of agree. It it wasn't for the paddle shifters I would have bought the car on the spot......my search continues

Looks like everyone already answer your question but the Sports Package is important to me. It's visually appealing

No sports pkg.

Sports package.

Sports pkg with MT = Heaven!
