Question Question about Buying a SLK 320

Hello guys I want to buy 2002 SLK 320 AMG with 61k miles on it. Do you think it’s a good idea? What problems these car typically have let’s say between 60 k-90k miles. I want to know your opinion about reliability of car and problems that it might have.

A SLK320 is not a AMG. Be careful. They are sold with AMG body Kits.

SLK AMG's are SLK32 and SLK55.

You can see MB's concerns, recalls about R170's (1996 - 2004 SLK's) at http://www.slkworld.com/mercedes-ben...0-alldata.html

Sounds like its just badged because of the kit normally people who badge up will do the whole thing.

Its acceptable to badge a car AMG with a body kit not like somebody taking the 55's kit and putting it on a 350 but somebody with a 350 adding the AMG pack for that model to it in fact at one time AMG badges came as standard on AMG sport models and the rest of the badging is left alone.

I think so long as they are not trying to make it look like something its not then don't worry about it, it would have been so easy to remove the 0 but they have not so thats a good sign.

OK it was little bit confusing with AMG sign but it’s not that important.
What can you say about 61k miles is it to high?
What problems are usually happen at these miles?

Sixty one thousand miles on a well maintained vehicle isn't much. First, I'd give it a good once over. Is there evidence of previous accidents, body damage, repainting? Do you have access to the service records. Again, if it's been maintained and no evidence of damage, if it's the right car at a good or fair price, get it. If you need another opinion, get a trusted mechanic to check it out. Good luck!

This is true. I bought an SLK320 with 67K on the clock. It was better maintained than a lot of the cars I'd previously looked at with 45K miles on average.

If you can get a service history from an MB dealer, that's a BIG plus. A clean Carfax is also a given.

Finally, don't pay anything extra for the AMG badge. Pay the going rate for an SLK320 (not an SLK32), and no more!
