Default SLK Wind Web help wanted

Though I have had the SLK for more than a year I have never used the wind web that came with the car. When I first put it on I must have installed it backwards as the fastening loops had nowhere to fasten. Then I put it on correctly but the fastening loops failed to reach the knobs behind the seats. What am I doing wrong? The sealed package said it was for a 171.

oh no, not nice atall.
my advice is sell it and buy yourself a plexiglass oem wind deflector.
I don't see how the web can make a big difference, and to be honest i think it looks highly unattractive.
get the plexiglass deflector!!

Since it is always so hot here I welcome the wind...so I would probably never use a wind deflector. In fact, I rarely put the top down.

The second set of pics show the correct installation.

It will fit, just real tight. It's designed that way. Put some muscle into it.

OK, I'll give it a real tug. Of course my Thai wife and Thai friends will think I am crazy for even wanting to keep the wind out.....almost as crazy as putting the roof down.

It looks backwards to me. Try it both ways...it'll become obvious which is right.

The wind web works quite well. It's very hot here, too...but I like top-down driving. It actually helps keep the cool A/C air in the car!

Its real hard to get installed the first few times out of the box but after that its easy.

Like dsb says the second set shows the correct way to do it.

Try installing it over the rings on the back wall first just make sure it goes behind the center console thats what the small gap behind it is for then install it on the poppers attached to the roll bars and last job is just to pull it up over the bars.

Leave it on for a few hours even if your not driving it to help it stretch out a little

I wouldn't bother if you rarely drop the top. it reduces rear vis drastically, main reason I bought the hard version.

Easty,

Don't remember if you had an R170 before the R171, but, believe it or not, the netting on the R171 is MUCH BETTER than the R170.

They look pretty much the same, but I couldn't see well at all at night with the R170 netting. I leave it on all the time with the R171.

Admittedly, an OEM windscreen should be even better

I hope I can buy one through the SLKWorld store from Piecha when that gets set up...

Piecha sells windscreens? I thought that was a roof mod. Am I missing something?

Yes sir!

This windscreen is glass, unlike most plexiglass models out there.
And yes, you can get the MB and MB-Star etched on it

Is this permanently attached or is it removable?

The base is permanently attached, however the glass can be dismounted whenever you like.

Thanks for the info. Definitely worth consideration in lieu of the OEM Lexan Windscreen.

Not sure Dan. I will follow up with that.

However i think it may depend on where the PTS sits. I need to find a pic and see maybe the windscreen has enough room to mout further back?

If you look at the lower pic, its mounted slightly forward. Perhaps if the PTS is not so far back, it can be mounted behind it.
Or modded

I'd say from looking at that pic the PTS is right in the middle of the base.

From the piccy it looks like the mount has a flat surface at the back i could as you say mount it behind the LCD with the flat edge towards me or cut the base apart to make an opening for the display to fit up into it as it mounted at a level higher than the deck anyways i just don't want to put the windscreen right at the back of the deck because my parcel shelf almost comes into contact with the roll bars at the moment i don't want it hitting the glass it could be messy.

Thats a thought is it coated in anything?
