It's a 2006 Slk 280. It's black on black and I call him the Bat Mobile. He's a little rough around the edges, but will be getting some new wheels soon and I just got some new ebc redstuff brake pads and a k & n airfilter. He just needs some love. So, who's coming to the Nopi Nationals in September? I went 3 years in a row in 05,06, & 07. Had the time of my life. :Banane13:

I tested multiple items which led me to the turn signal stalk. I wasn't 100% sure that was the problem and I didn't want to spend $200 on a new stalk if I didn't need one, so I did a little testing.
Here is an easy way to test to see if you need a new stalk.

We bought our 2007 SLK280 at Carmax. Paid about 25k for it, has 57k miles on it. Is in very good condition. This is our first Mercedes, and our first hardtop convertible. We may take a nice long road trip with it this summer, say 2000 miles or so. Wll bring a tarp too in case the top won't go up and it starts raining.....I wonder how reliable those tops really are? I'm new to the world of MB. Just picked up a 2003 SLK 32 AMG with 75,000 miles. I'm estimating around 8,500 miles per year driven on the car. Got it from Carmax. They showed me the history, single owner. I don't have service records, however.

Anyway, I live in So Cal. The car is fun to drive, looks great, and beats the heck out of the Ford Fiesta I was driving.

I enjoy reading about what others have done to their cars. Possibly someday I may do something to mine to increase the performance. It's no slouch, but still, getting more from the car would be fun.

I'm also on the AMG Private Lounge site. Here's a couple of photos of the car. Looking forward to learning more about this car and sharing with others.

The subject says it all, I'm a complete newbie in relation to the SLK280 or convertible sports cars in general and need a little help.
Our kids are moving out to college so we just sold our nice and very practical VW Passat W8 and are considering getting a 2-seater convertible instead.

We're currently comparing a 2007 Z4 3.0si with a 2006 MB 280SLK.

Some questions I hope someone can help me with.

1. Why should I pick the SLK over the Z4? This being an SLK forum I bet you'll have some comments on this

2. SLK is hard top, Z4 is soft top. Do you feel that the hard top of the SLK is a big benefit of a soft top?
3. I'm 6'2" - will I fit in this car? It will primarily be my wife driving it but I would want to be able to fit both as a driver or a passenger. Will it be too snug?

Any other things I should know.

Wonderful place! One can't even consider driving cars like these back home.

Much as I enjoy my SLK280, I'm considering replacing it with an SLK55. How do the 55's operating and maintenance costs compare to a 280's? I'm expecting them to be some higher, but not astronomically so. What have people's experiences been? As important, how do the handling and comfort driving compare? Previously, I drove a 2000 Miata. I thought I had bruised my kidneys if I drove it for more than about two hours. Road trips were ahem, uncomfortable. I have none of that feeling when driving my SLK280. We've only had the car for a week or so, but love it so far. It's a black on black, 6spd manual with the sport package, which was exactly what I was searching for...I needed a new car after I taught my wife to drive a manual and she permanently adopted my Porsche Boxster. :(

The car was somewhat neglected by the previous owner (to the tune of a few thousand dollars in maintenance to get it to my standards for a daily driver), but I've come to realize that's always a possibility with used cars. It's got an AMG badge on it, which I understand isn't factory as they never produced these (the previous owner swore it was due to the sport package). The ride is smooth and it's just plain fun to drive.

The forum has been a great help so far in my search for parts and advice.
