Angry SLK vs Ferrari... I had to let him go

Pulling on to the motorway onramp in Khyber Pass in Auckland, me and this Ferrari just happened to be side by side, with room enough for only one of us as the lane narrowed about 30m ahead.

Now I *would* have gone for it except I had only just turned the car on about 2 minutes previously and it was cold, and I have noticed (not that I try this sort of thing on a stone cold motor) that the acceleration when the car is still warming up is about half that of when its nice and warm.

I'm not sure what sort of Ferrari it was (did'nt really get a good look) but the driver was sure staring daggers at me and floored it when we got the green light.

I couldn't do it - I cant do that to a cold engine... and the ferrari was almost fishtailing...

Not if it was any of the current models. Those would give the 55 a pretty solid handling.

Yeah if mine were warmed up I would have gunned it - after all it does 0-100 in 4.5 s... at the very least we would have been neck and neck...

The guys behind us looked like they wanted a good show...

Next time...

Only if it was an antique. Their more recent models are really in a completely different class.

F430: 490hp, 3.9s
612 Scaglietti: 540hp, 4.1s
599 GTB Fiorano, 620hp, 3.3s

If its a 360 modena production years 99-2004 the 55 can handle it, other wise the newer one's such as the F430 needs a 55 with a few bolt on modifications to be on par with it.

F430 is super fast, it does 11.7 @ 120mph in the 1/4 mile, same as my Kleemann supercharged SLK55.

11.7 eh?

Not bad at all, prefer 10.X results myself but for a stock car not bad, must be honest it never felt that quick.

**** it, I did my research and it was indeed an earlier 360 Modena.

I could have have had 'em.

But I would never have done that to a cold engine!!! - especially since I have only had the car 3 weeks and still get excited every time I step in it..

The consolation to all this was a 500SEC take me on on the motorway the other day... yawn. We were weaving through traffic and I let this dude get 200m in front of me before I really fanged it. 20 seconds later he was 100m behind.

Next time I will deal to the Ferrari too - I am far from impressed with anything before 2004.

Next story...

Same motorway, this time a Z4 and I was ready for him. I was doing like I usually do, cruising along at 105 and Mr hotrodder roars up behind me. I continue at my 105 until he starts going back and forwards past my in the outside lane. So we speed up a bit, I'm trying hard not to laugh as I write this BTW, and he guns it in anticipation. I'm at about 110 wondering whether to pay this guy out or not. ahhh flag it I think to myself, but we both happen to pull off the motorway and onto a dual carriageway road with no traffic on it. Alrighty then, game on. He guns it, I plant my foot through the floorboards too and he's out the back door. ok, thats 1-0 to me. We pull up at the lights alongside each other. Green. I give him a 20m headstart then gun it. In no time he's well behind me. Thats 2-0, game to me. but wait, he wants to play again.

I didn't even look around, just turned the radio up a bit and went back to cruise control.

I thought those Z4's had a leeeetle more power than that...

Was it an M? Even the base model SLK (280/300) are as fast as, if not faster than 75% of the Non-M Z4s. (Straight line that is...)

Only the 3.0si motors will kill SLK 280/300.
I think those are 255hp and run to 60mph in about 5.8 secs or so.
