Default Got Killed

Was driving driving home yesterday, when younger Kid in Mustag mach I pulled in front. We were in trffic about 90 MPH. Traffic cleared and both of us nailed it. Mustang pulled four cars when wifey told me to shut it down. I was very surprised at the power of the mustang. Don't know what would have happened on top end.

I actually had the reverse. Pummled a guy with a new Saleen Mustang, the weird rear end with big spoiler and different taillights etc, all that crap. I trounced him to my genuine surprise. I'm good, but not THAT good!

When he came up to another light I was waiting at, I listened to it, it was a stock 6-cylinder, he just bought and put on all the body add-ons and graphics. It was a complete fake!

Hey, if you want to have fun, try this: The Mustang hormone test. When it's raining out and there's a Mustang in the left turning lane, and you're not, rev the engine up a couple of times. Then watch as he can barely make it through the turn.

I love mustang's and Vettes, especialy the Z06 in Lemans Blue and the Shelby GT500 06+ stlye. Ive read that the GT500KR "King of the Road" is on the way packing a hefty 540hp. I think the only down fall is that its a Porker, weights alot and the Z06 with 507hp can kill it.

Thats part of why I can wait for my car to go into the shop in the next 1-2 weeks and get my NOS setup.

Those cars won't even be a thought if I could take them or not.

But you know what they say, "There is ALWAYS something faster than yours"

Same here, I like the 60's mustangs but too bad the Shelby Gt500 is very expensive if it was cheaper I would of gotten one for my selft, Hmm Camaro's didnt really like them but I think I am liking the new Convt and Coupe 2009 model that is supposed to be about soon I guess.

I had a 1986 Camaro I bought with 9,000 miles. An autocrosser bought it special order, it was a 2.8L V6 5-Speed with the Level 3 IROC suspension and brake package (and wheels) in Firemist on red cloth. It had A/C and a cassette, but otherwise weight savings was everywhere, crank windows, etc. Very well balanced compared to the V8 versions, but still undriveable on snow. Kinda loud because I think he removed all the sound deading. When it got to 24,000 miles I had to sell it. Things just started falling apart.

My mother had a 1970 BOSS 302 Mustang she was restoring. It was all done save for the paint job (not a body off restore, mind you) when on Holloween night (when we lived in Detroit) back in the early 80's, someone stole the tape deck out of it and thre a molitov cocktail in and burned it to the ground. She paid $200 for the car originally. Needless to say, she balled like a baby.

Sorry to hear about that. BOSS are soo in demand right now, It will continue to apperciate in Value. I always had a sweet spot for a 67-9 Red/Black Mach1

Its 2nd on my list of Muscle Cars after the GT500.

So how do SLK350's compare with the new Mustang GT? I tried dragging one at a red light and even with a good launch, it pulled away 2 car lengths from me.

Guys,

Thanks for feedback, to answer your questions and comments. yes Mustang was Cobra and more than likely supercharged. He downshifted and was running significant RPM's when we punched it. I left the trans in 7th gear and let the car downshift automatically. I could have done better if I was in 6th or 5th. I had wifey, full load of suitcses, etc.

I think with a Good launch the SLK might be 1/2 - 1 car behind but around 170ish kmh the SLK might outrun it. The American cars are all about torque and midrange power, the only exception are the Vipers and the Vette's.

Right now looks like the U.S manufacturers might consider conquering the tracks, I think racing from traffic light to another is dangerous, If you want to show the other car(contender) your skills, show him what you would do at the track

I am very unfamiliar with American muscle cars. ONly one i recognize that has been takled about is the shelby 500'KR'
That si the one they tested on Top Gear, and it came up it had less than 500bhp as claimed.

Long ago I had a few "wet dream" muscule cars...'74 Ford Grand Torino (351 Cleveland), '74 Dodge Challenger (small muscule 318), '68 RS Camaro (327) and a '68 convertible Dodge Magnum (440 w/ 6 pack). All were mint or near mint condition. It was nice to grow up with a Dad who owned a used car dealership.

Ahhh...those were the days.

Depends. If you REV the SLK and get him excited, the GT will loose. That's because they still have live rear axels, and if the guy gives it to much peddle, the rear axle will hop (I remember that crap in my Camaro) and he'll have much less traction, giving you the edge to 30 MPH easily.

However, if you're not prepared, he'll kill you as the gobs of torque down low allow the Mustang to pick up her skirt (ie weight) early on and go. Most of the new Mustang V8's do better if they launch at 1,400 RPM or lower.
