Default Everyone wants to race me

Last night I was driving around San Francisco at about 2:30AM and three cars wanted to race me in the space of about 5 minutes. One was a Mustang GT which gave up when I didn't rise to the bait. One was a riced Civic that looked and sounded like it would fly to pieces at any moment and kept pulling up next to me and revving. Another was a debadged BMW 3 series (but not an M3) that also kept revving. I wouldn't race them, but the BMW asked me to gun it at the light just so he could hear the engine. I obliged, and ended up blasting to the next light while the Civic and the BMW were barely off the line. At the next light the Civic took off, thinking I wanted to race him because of my last start - sounded like it was going to blow up. The BWM waved and took off. What made it especially fun was that I was on a date with a girl who is into cars, and she enjoyed the little proto-race a lot, and got a kick out of being in the car that was the focus of so much attention.

Nobody has ever tried to race me. I guess I don't trigger that feeling in people. Or maybe they think the experience would be fruitless since they would lose for sure...

I got my 99 slk 230 when I was 19. I've been raced from 1990 civics to 911's an vette's. The thing that suprises me the most is that most people who race me are all over 30. I expect teenagers but not 30-50 year olds. One time I was in the slow lane(on the highway) then a yellow vette flys out of the fast lane to pull next to me, and nails it. Looks as old as my Grandfather. Kinda stupid...

Sorry, hate to be a prude, but I DON'T condone street racing in any form.

If there is no one else on the road I'll give them what they want but once traffic comes up I WILL NEVER be that stupid to put someone else's life in my hands.

I love to show people what Mercedes Benz can do especially those mustangs and Bimmer's!!

It's fun to test a race now and then. There must be something strange about the SLK making people to try racing it. Nobody was doing that when I drove ny old merc (W203). can anybody explain this?

racing isn't wise in built up areas, but open motorways are good fun.
my friends have an s200 and a z4 respectively and we would have to odd stint every now and again. merc always wins top speed, but to 60 the s2000 just has me by a headlight!!
