wow Bernd, that is full of crud!! wonder how much my airboxes are holding. i better get the finger out and order these green filters.
Today I think it is very important to clean up the air filters more often than the recommended change, especially if the SLK is your daily driver like mine. But ordering the Greens won't be a fault, as I perceive that the engine reacts more directly to the movement of the throttle. I will observe the fuel consumption. But I don't hear a difference. The exhaust drowns it out. I am going to listen next time when driving with opened roof.

Yes, indeed. I remember my Volkswagen time in the 80s: Cleaning up the (paper) air filter every 10,000 kms, change after 40,000 kms.

It might be. Perhaps a little bit more sand and instead of the leaves parts of palms.
Just got around to installing mine. Took literally 10 minutes. Thank you ynot for the simple instructions! What I would recommend is (silly me) not to unscrew the torx screws all the way, but just enough that it releases it from the bottom tray. It saves you a ton of time! it was also insane to see how much dirt there was in the stock filter tray, and also how cheap and restrictive the stock filter is! This is a must mod for every SLK!
Thx for the info, by the way I'm a new member from SF Ca. Just purchased a used 2003 SLK 320. My wife enjoys driving the SLK, I just want to modify it a liitle.
Ok so I don't really feel or hear a difference after installing the Green Filters. What is supposed to be different?
The gain is mainly in MPG. Before the green air filters, combined driving was around 24 mpg on the SLK 280. After the green air filters, combined driving is now around 27 mpg.

I have to agree, my last couple of vehicles, I've noticed a big difference, especially with sound and throttle responses, to be honest I haven't notice anything with the greens except as etyu said, it helps with fuel economy, that can't be a bad thing.

Crud. All this talk about the filters and better mileage made me want to order them, only to find out the SLKWorld store is sold out. Any idea on a re-stock date?

no Zeiser...it's really very str8 forward, just undo the screws and lift up the plastic. maybe 5mins is exagerated but 15mins-20mins at max is all it takes and a mod well done.
You don't need to unscrew the screws all the way, just maybe half way so it disconnects from the main casing. I took off 4 screws all the way on one of them before I realized I didn't have to.
