Cleaning Your SLK with Meguiars vs Other Products? - Page 2

I will put my Autoglym products and method (post #11 above) against any Zaino use for appearance and durability -- and the Autoglym is much quicker giving me more "beer and ball game" time. Indeed, I recently did so at an S 2000 meet-up. Other cars dripping with Zaino. Mine with a two month old Autoglym job. In appearance, mine was equal to, or superior to, all of them. Though my cars are garaged when not in use, it is notable that the S 2000 still "shines on" 1 1/2 years after the wax job. And that car celebrates its "7th birthday" next month. Autoglym is recommended by such as Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, and the Royal Family of England (really!). And it's "so bloody easy to use", so cheap, and so compatible with other car care products that I am amazed how few have even tried it. On an R 171 with Mercedes new "nano paint" which is very "hard" one can shave in the reflection from the trunk (boot) lid. Come by the house, and I'll show you on our SLK, which was given this treatment last November.

Do you mean the wax or the polish? Or do you wax after polish?

Genrally, it is a good idea to first apply the Radiant Wax Polish, and then apply the Liquid Hardwax1. It may sound like too much work also. But the polish has pretty good chemical cleaning abilities, so it can sometimes substitute for a clay bar job, or even for a light polishing with an ROB. And the polish goes on and comes off very quickly and easily. I've seen a black car sit in the afternoon sun for several hours after the polish was applied, and still it buffed easily. The wax can be applied sparingly, and is easy to buff. If you re-wax while the finish still "beads water" and while the finish feels smooth to the hand (maybe a year or more for a car that has a garage when not in use), you can omitt the polish.

I have used Meguiers and Eagle One, and found it to work well on my car. I have also used Zaino, but at times find it quicker to pick up Mequiers and/or Eagle One at Auto Zone.

All seem to work well, just make sure you are using a microfiber cloth.

It is not as nice a Zaino. I prefer the quality of Eagle One products. I have seen the Turtle Wax products, but have not tried them. I have used Turtle Wax in the past and found it to be acceptable.

Where do you purchase Autoglym?

I actually buy Autoglym from the owner of our local Mercedes Benz certified body shop. I get it in the one liter size. So if you have a body shop contact , that is a good place to start. It is used by many body shops.

I've been told it is available from Autogeek and Autotopia (sp?) on line. If you buy the smaller than liter size container, these products have different names, so be sure to check that with whoever sells it to you.

Went to your recommended site, and could find no Autoglym products. Then, I seem to recall in the back of my mind that this supplier quit selling Autoglym a number of months ago and had a close-out special.

Anybody hunting for Autoglym products need only do a Google search for "Autoglym". I just did and found a large number of on line suppliers, plus a link to Autoglym's America distributor (the product is made in England) too many retailers are listed on the Google search to list here.

The higher end Zymol waxes are some of the best even though they are relatively expnsive. Which Zymol products are you looking at?

The blue zymol polish-wax is actually lower end and manufactured by Turtle Wax (ssen in walmart etc).....

Yes, that low-end blue Zymol liquid car wax isn't even as good as some Turtle Wax products IMO. I've never tried their high-end products, and join in asking for a report from somebody who has.

i prefer Meguiars NXT Tech Wax along with Some Mothers Products and i have found that WIZARDS Mist-N-Shine to be the best after-wash detailer

I've found Meguair's NXT wax to be a very hard and long-lasting wax. It gives silver colored cars a particularly great shine. However, I have found it much more difficult than average to buff off. And, for darker or deeper colors, the dried wax white haze seems to cling in every seam and rock chip. As all my vehicles are deeper colored, and as I don't like the buffing problems, I use Autoglym Hardwax1 (aka Extra Gloss Protection) instead. It delivers a similar hard and long lasting wax job -- with less work.

i think that the original tech wax was very easy to take off, the new tech wax 2.0 definitely is more difficult

Weird, I find Meguair's NXT extremely easy to buff off with no streaking at all. The darkest color I've used it on was red and orion blue, though. I use a toothbrush to remove the wax from all the grooves. Do you wax your's in the sun? I always do it in the shade.
