Cleaning the Muffler?

Is there any product I can use to clean the mufflers? I can see them getting more and more unnattractive over time...

I would just give them a wash over with shampoo when your cleaning the car, not much that can be done about them really you need to work on preventing them getting dirty because once they are it will be cooked on.

To be honest its not something anybody would really notice unless they are on the deck behind your car and normal height they are hidden.

Look for a product called "NevrDull" - it's great for cleaning up and protecting smooth bare metal surfaces.

I honestly wouldnt bother, the rear valance will cover it up what really bothers me is how the stock muffler on the Cayenne rusts badly thank god I went aftermarket.

If you want to restore the metal on your mufflers, you might try some hand polish, such as is sold by 3M, with a medium abrasive rating. Should this fail, there is a product called "Flitz" metal polish, which is the best I've used for polishing metals. Some internet detailing supply companies have it. Locally, I can find it at a sporting goods store that specializes in rifles and shotguns. Unfortunately, it's just one of those good products that car parts stores don't carry.

Are you meaning the chrome tips or the box's that they fasten to?.

The tips are quite hard wearing and the most they should need is a waxing every now and then. The boxes do tend to rust a bit here and there.

This is what I do/did. Soft wire brush them all over, well at least all that you can get to, then give them a coat of heat-proof, (or caliper?), silver or aluminium paint.

Done mine about a year ago and they still look like new.

Well, the inside of the tips do get "crudded up" a bit, and it is often necessary to clean them off with a bit of "0000" steel wool lubricated by a bit of oil to get rid of carbon build-up.

Only the other day, on MBClub.co.uk, I was mentioning that mine dont do this. There is never any carbon build up at all in the tips of my 280.
