Hi, Is it safe to clay a car and not apply a new wax/Zaino coat? Does clay strip wax? My car was bought new recently, has a nice shine but is arguably rough when sliding a finger along the door panel. On another note I have not waxed a car personally yet, as a total newbie to this process what do you all think..is it safe or advisable for me to attempt a Zaino job?

As etyu says, you don't want to leave the finish unprotected after using the clay bar as it strips everything off of the surface (dirt, pollution, rail dust, wax, etc.) leaving the finish exposed to the elements. Of course, this also is a perfect time to put a good quality wax/protectant on your car being as no foreign particles will be sealed in under your new coating. I wrote about the benefits of using the clay bar here. Now comes the fun part... By all means, use Zaino on your car. It doesn't matter if you are a newbie to the process. Read and follow the directions. It seems a little time consuming in the beginning, but the first application (including the clay bar treatment) is what takes the most time. Subsequent coatings go much faster and don't take much effort since you don't need to buff - you really just apply, wait, and wipe off. My car has about 6-8 coats from last year. It stays outside all winter here in northeastern US and you should see the beautiful shine it still has (see the pics). Now this car hasn't been washed since October. It has seen snow and salt and all sorts of winter dirt but nothing sticks to the surface. One good rainfall and anything on the surface falls right off leaving the beautiful Zaino shine. I swear by this stuff. So don't be afraid to use the product. And you'll love the results.

agree dont leave the paint unfinished, as soon as i got my car i garaged it and spent hours using autoglym lifeshine. similar to superguard. this creates a seal for the paint and maintains the paint gloss for a year if kept well. i would polish my car once-twice a month to keep it glossy. you should try meguiars 3 stage wax, or swissol do a very good selection of paint polish and wax.
