Default UK owners - 3M paintwork coating

Hi all,

I'll be getting my car soon (Yay!) - a shiny new black SLK350

Anyway, I'm keen to stop stone chips, so I was wondering where you got your sorted in the UK. I'm in the Midlands, so if there are good installers close by, it'd be good

Also, how've you found it in general? Anyone with a black car have any experiences worth mentioning?

Regards,
Phil

I was going to get the 3m Stone guard done on my SLK55 AMG, But With the heat over here it will slightly change the colour of the area covered with Stone Guard Clear Cover, I dont think thats an Issue in the United Kingdom, You could always just ask.

I had the same thoughts mate, But to be honest I've seen it work for all cars apart from black. Noticed a 911 at a recent track day with this stuff on and it looked aweful with a black car. again though I'm in always 100F texas. I'm not sure the heat has too much effect as my friends grey elise has had it on for a while with no problems.

Dedra, PLEASE post some pics. I was worried the sureguard treatment might distort the two tone colour of the car and make the treated panel look slightly different colour to the other panels.

I agree. Although I don't like the paint chips, they're inevitable. I'm sure the "stone guard" and others are great products. Back in the '60s, (yea 60s), when you bought a new car, the first mod were clear plastic seat covers. After time, they turned yellow. After many years of enduring the terrible plastic seat covers, the car was old and the seats new. With stone guard and other similar products, what's the durability and possible change in color after many years?

This is what I would do too. Too much work and expense.

I got my front bumper done when I got my car. Cost £280 and comes with a 4 year warranty against stone chips. My car is Tellur Silver and the coating is hardly noticeable. I would recommend the film but it may be more noticeable on a black car. Anyway here's the link to the place I got mine done:
