Default 7G shift quality

OK, I have read the threads but still cant decide if TADTS or mine is a dud. Basically it bangs hard from 3-2 when cold and occasionally 2-1, this is worse if the car has previously been driven hard and minimal if it was driven by my granny, the more carefully I drive it thru warm up the more obvious it seems. Once the tranny is fully warm then it works perfectly. So, is it adaption, valves, software or the normal poor old show ? 2005 SLK AMG 55

What about manual shifting, does it still kick.

I don't think my SLK 350 ever "banged" from 3 to 2. And only occasionally from 2 to 1. And it hasn't done that for a long time. Maybe I drive like a grandpa, but I would be concerned about the 3 to 2 bang. Since it is a 2005, I would have thought it would have adjusted itself plenty by now. I would definitely have the shop look at it.

Yes if I have left it in too high a gear and let it change down itself.

My shifting seemed harsh and sluggish. The dealer gave me a software update that smoothed it out. I have a 2007 SLK55.

Right Im struggling to be definitive here but I would say its worse in s than manual but it still does it in M. I can deffo tell in M it changes sweeter on certain shifts than others, 2-3 and 2-1 are not as good as 3-4 for instance. If I leave it in S and going down the motorway off ramp it is banging on the 3-2 ( Ithink) down change. Also if I suddenly floor it at low speed its as if the gearbox hasnt caught up, gone to neutral then banged into gear.
Any the wiser ?
ProtonVehiCROSS says software helped and thats on an 07. What year or version software update is required for my 05

To be honest i don't think it has a problem since it works normally once its warm, the box does tend to slam valves about when the fluid is cold.

Wow, I wouldn't call that normal for my SLK 350. Is the 55 shifting that different? Admittedly, it feels tighter when it starts up, but nothing banging or anything close to that for me. And that start up difference is gone in about a mile.

Could spend a month of Sunday's messing about with it.

2005 car, warranty's gonna be out (unless its still under AUC, don't think a software upgrade would be considered warranty work) plus it's had 3 years to fail and the marginal valve fault would have shown up by now.

If it ain't broke don't fix it, it works when its warm and thats what matters.

Any faults should be evident at service time anyway.
