Now I'm confused (again), is this in addition to the 518 package I have in my '09 SLK? Is it another cable that will allow my iPhone to work with my existing Media Interface, do I already have this capability ..... OR ......

Is this this something that isn't even available for the '09 SLK?

Please help me sort this out....

hello,

In the press release I spotted this :

"Optional convenience telephony (Order Code 386) must also be specified. The cradle connects to the audio system either via the optionally available Media Interface or the retrofittable iPod®Interface Kit available from the range of genuine accessories."

but later on it reads that "The fully integrated iPhone® is available now for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E‑Class, CLK-Class, CLS-Class, S-Class, CL-Class, SL-Class, M-Class and R-Class. The product will also be offered for the new GLK-Class when this model is launched in October." So it looks like it is not available for the SLK class. Oversight in the PR or is the SLK with the A and B class there ?

Oh well, if I can connect the iPhone to the UMI just like the iPod and it still connects to the Audio20 HU with BT, I'm not completely lost at least...

It is still confusing. Can I purchase the 386 cradle and connect it to my UMI? I'm just hoping that someone can explain this to me in terms that make sense to me. But like you said, I can still connect via the iPod interface, but I "think" that I was told that you have to shut off the iPhones cellular connection for it to work properly. But then that leaves me without a phone. So... the way I see it I can either have my iPhone act as an iPod or my iPhone as a bluetooth connected phone, but not both. It sounds like the new 386 option solves that issue. I'm hoping that I can retro-fit at a "reasonable" cost, the 386 cradle if in fact it works with the command in the '09 SLK. But in reading the press release, the SLK isn't even mentioned.

with my AUX input. I can actually talk through my car without the bluetooth feature through my AUX input. I have a IPhone 3G and hooked it up to the
AUX like you instructed me to do. While I was jamming out, I received a
phone call. Fumbling around, I accidentally answered the call and could
hear the person through the speakers in my car. I answered back and they
said that it was more clear to talk through my car than if I had them on
speaker my speakerphone! So there is no need for Bluetooth in my car and all the money I would have to spend to retrofit it with MB! I can't believe it!

that's because it's treating your car like one big headset. I'm not sure the microphone would work but if it did, I don't see how....

I will have to look into this, MB seems to have interfaces springing up from everywhere at the moment.
