Default R171 Fog Light Holder Part#

Hey Dan,

I ended up putting in the Silverstar bulbs into my fog lights but really didn't like them at all. There was almost no change in the color temp. They seemed to be slightly brighter, but still no where near HID color.
Still left to try the various Jap bulbs.

I think i am going to go through with the HID install for the fog lights, as it is sitting in my garage already. So i wanted to get a part number for those bulb holders in the "Cornering" foglights. Also have the cornering feature disabled next time i go in for service.

On the holder itself it says Hella >PBT GF 20< is this the correct model number?

I am going to end up drilling these things till i can fit an HID bulb in it, and don't want to screw up without a replacement.

N 000000 000069

.BULB
FOGLAMP, HB-4 12V-55W
CODE -772

This should be the one you want mate it looks like bulb and holder are supplied as one according to the computer.

Hope this helps
Dan

Well according to MB no such part exists. I was told however that these holders may be a part of the entire fog light assembly and would explain why they are not assigned a seperate part number.

Lens has a part#
Gasket around the lens has a part#
Bulb has a part#
and the entire fog light has a Part#

Looks like i may be out of luck on this one. They ordered the wrong part for me already (sockets for the harness) so i doubt they can come up with these holders for me seperately from the entire fog light

Oh btw, I was just wondiner would the HID fog lights be too hot for the those lens and cause damage to it? I had thought of switching my fogs to HID too but the guy that I go to said it might be too hot and crack the lens or sth. (well actually I switched my fog lights to some cheap H3 fogs cause the fog lights doesn't fit my new bumper.) so maybe the lens is even worse quality than the original mercedes' ones

Acrtually the HID bulbs produce less heat then standard 55watt bulbs. So i'm not sure about what the guy told you. (not saying that he is wrong, on certain car models/lenses, this would be true if you upgraded from 35w to 55w)

You can actually pic up HID fog lights (whole fog light and bulb together already) and install those if you are already going 100% aftermarket on the fog lights. May be opt for a set with white halo rings built in

Ive fitted HIDs to my R170 fogs. Work great, no real heat issues (35w)
Beam pattern is still flat with no flare, very happy Jan

Used 4500k generic off ebay, mine has H1 holders.

You luck out Bazzle. On the R170 things were a whole lot easier. I take it you put HIDs in your low beams as well (or have stock) which is what i did when i had mine.

At MB dealer they had no clue what the hell i was talking about with these holders i am looking for. Shame i had to school them in there till the head manager came out to talk to me. Maybe i should ask for a job next time

Since i know BMWs use similar holders, i managed to find a guy on ebay that sells modded holders already adapted for aftermarket HID bulbs. Purchased a pair and hope they fit. Though the guy said he'd refund me if they didn't too, which was nice of him.

We'll see how it all turns out. Just hoping those holders are the same and fit my fog lights.

Great news for anyone with cornering foglights on an R171.

The BMW HID adapters i bought fit the fog lights almost perfectly. Only thing i had to do was thin down the little 3 clip pieces. (not an issue at all)

8000k HIDs have been fitted with H7 bulbs + adapters.

Thank you so much for you info.

This is great! I was just thinking about doing the same and now I have the solution from you.

by the way, can you let me know how the wiring from the ballast are connected to the stock bulb connectors?

The balasts connect directly to the stock wire harnesses. Simple connect and you are done. But a pain installing the adapters.

Also, you will need to go to the dealership to have them disable the fog light cornering feature. Ballasts can't take the slow power up/power down that the cornering feature.

You could just always turn on your fog lights when you drive, but sometimes its a pain. So you should have it disabled.

Let me know if you need more help...

Ok so the connectors are plug and play.

I haven't check cause I am also on my own (yes, I am a loner.... )

does the cornering fog goes on in the day time with auto light shut off?

if not then it's ok. I can just turn on my fog whenever i turn on my headlight. It has always been a habit for me on my Mini Cooper anyway.

PS: please keep me updated on the Comand Nav module.

The cornering fogs go on automatically on a turn at low speeds and with your turn signals in Auto mode, and i think in On mode as well. So if you install the HIDs, you would always had to have the fogs on when you turn on headlights.

I just found it being a pain because i would leave the switch in Auto, and then not notice the headlights turn on at dusk. then see the HIDs go crazy on the fog lights.

Sorry, no word back yet about the Command. Will keep on this guy.
