Dan, do you know if the car will need any software update to use the new part? Does the sensor work with the top up or down? Can the motion sensor be turned off similar to the tow hook button?

Actually the first question I should have asked is does my US spec car have this sensor already?

Thanks again,
Michael

The car will need to be told the sensor is present and you can choose when the car is coded if you want it to work when the roof is down (i'd say keep it off when the roof is down otherwise you will get false alarms all the time).

You will need a switch replaced to let you switch it off when you want otherwise it will always activate when the roof is up, the sensor is not installed by default in USA cars.

So what switch will I need to replace and do you have a part# for that? Where does the new switch get installed? Would it be next to the hazzard button or somewhere else?

My local dealer wants $260 for the sensor. Dan, is the sensor and switch something you can order at a better cost and we can get a group buy together for those that have an interest?

As far as the operation of the sensor will tripping the sensor trigger the alarm immediately or will there be a proximity warning (beep) before the alarm triggers?

Thanks,
Michael

I found this info:

Interior motion sensor*

A visual and audible alarm is triggered if your vehicle is locked and a movement is detected in the vehicle interior, e.g. if someone breaks your vehicle's side windows or reaches into the vehicle interior.
Priming the interior motion sensor

Make sure that the stowage compartment underneath the armrest and the side windows are closed.
This will prevent false alarms.
Make sure that the roof is closed.
Except for vehicles for the Netherlands: only then can the interior motion sensor be primed.
Vehicles for the Netherlands: the interior motion sensor is primed even when the roof is open. However, the roof should be closed so as to avoid a false alarm.
Make sure that the boot lid is closed.
Only then can the interior motion sensor be primed.
Lock the vehicle using the key.
The interior motion sensor is primed after approximately 30 seconds.

Original Element p durch Gültigkeiten gefiltert!
Do not leave anything, e.g. mascots, hanging on the rear-view mirror or on the grab handles on the roof lining. These could otherwise trigger false alarms.

Deactivating the interior motion sensor

Deactivate the interior motion sensor if a person or animal is remaining in the vehicle when you lock it, or if you are leaving the side windows open.
This will prevent false alarms.

Indicator lampTo deactivate the interior motion sensor
Remove the key from the ignition lock.
Press button .
Indicator lamp flashes briefly.

Risk of injuryDo not leave children unsupervised in the vehicle. They could open the doors, release the parking brake or injure themselves on moving parts in the vehicle, thus endangering themselves and others.

The interior motion sensor remains deactivated until you unlock and lock the vehicle again.

So I see the switch I would need. PN# looks like 171 820 51 10.

Hi mate,

The pics shows where the switch gets installed and it just replaces the one already fitted.

I could order without the VAT but it would still be hugely expensive for you guys because of the exchange rate.

The alarm just triggers the system in the SLK does not give warnings

Can you post a price quote when you have time. That way I can decide if it is something I want to pursue.

Thanks tons.
