Default Subwoofer Blown

Hi there,
My battery died on me as I was starting the car (2001 SLK320) and I think it blew my subwoofers out. How do I know if it's the fuse or the actual amp?

Thanks alot

I have sound in the other speakers, just not the two bose speakers in the back, not even static. I tried to look for the fuses in the fuse box and the aux. fuse box but none of the fuses were for speakers. Do I have to remove the back molding under the trunk?

The two speakers located at the top of the vertical rear bulkhead storage unit gives minimal/barely noticeable sound. Tslick has suggested to cover the openings with aluminum, and then without, with the music on to see if you'll notice a difference. If there is, then the two small rear speakers are working.

I beleive the R170s had fewer rear speakers, but were more noticable (not having the 7 channel sound system).

IIRC, the Bose bass speaker was behind the driver's seat. They didn't have the little speakers above the center console. Different arrangement entirely.

OK so with your cars MY the Bose system takes a feed from the radio and sends it to the amp via a discreet set of lines, the amp then drives the speakers.

If you have lost 2 speakers you need to start with them and work back to the amp then the radio itself.

Clearly its not a fuse issue so you need to check the rear speakers are getting power if they are then they are defective and should be replaced.

If they are not getting power check the outputs on the amp if its not providing power on the speaker outputs check its getting signal inputs on all the feeds from the radio, if all the inputs are OK but some of the outputs are bad replace the amp, if all the inputs and outputs are OK you have a wiring problem.

If inputs to the amp are not all OK then check the outputs on the radio same as above applies if all good outputs then you have a wiring fault, if you do not have a full set of good outputs from the radio its defective and should be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for the delay since 170's are not my specialty i doubled checked the wiring diagrams.
