Idler pulley, how many are there?

The 55 has about 300 miles but I noted the whine of a cat on starting the engine when it's cold. The whine disappears when the engine warms up after a few minutes.

I took to the service dep't. and the service advisor agrees that it may be the idler pulley and asked the shop foreman to listen. The foreman came with a stethoscope (with a long metal tube at the listening end, to isolate the noise/sound) and agrees it may be the idler pulley. The car will be serviced on Sept. 11.

Question: How many idler pulleys are there on the 5.5 liter engine?

One idler pulley on the 5.5 if memory serves me correct its located right by the thermostat, it does not actually do anything.

Of course I've not heard it and if the shop guys think its they pulley then i hope it gets fixed but to me Eddy mate that sounds like the secondary air pump that operates when the engine is cold to force air into the exhaust system to heat the cats.

It whines like a b1tch.

Do you think you could get some audio of it from the engine bay?
