Default SvcMgr: "Car measures metalic content in oil"..?

My car showed 7.1 qt so I asked dealer to check and possibly do an oil consumption test.

Service Manager responded that the "Car can measure the metalic content in the oil and if you add new oil it will adjust the flexible service interval so we don't add oil if it is low"

This sounds crazy for 2 reasons,
1. Can the car truely test the oil (metalic content)that way? Not to my understanding. Dan can you confirm?

2. Why wouldn't you add oil when its is low?

When I arrived to pick up the car it said add 1.5qt. Looking at the specific measurement is showed 6.1 qts which is 1qt lower then when I dropped the car off. Dealer test drove only 35-40 miles with the car while they had it.

Any help?

Should I just try another dealer?

Thanks,
Michael

The oil sensor works using capacitive measuring i.e it passes a voltage into the oil and watches the returns so in a way it does measure the metallic content in the oil but it can also detect the oil starting to degrade without engine crap being present it also detects the oil temperature and level using the same principle.

The ASSYST will compensate for clean oil but its not going to add 10k miles to interval maybe just a few k per change and saying we don't add oil when its low sounds foolish to me, i think you should give it the oil it wants mate if it did not need it then it would not be asking would it.

Maybe try another dealer next time

Well I don't what to just leave it. But another question for you is should I:

1)Top off the oil and wait the 3000 miles until service C is due to change the oil.

or

2)Have just the oil changed now.

The oil is quite dark right now.

Whats your average monthly mileage?

If its very low then probably best get the oil changed if its quite high then just top up.

My average has been about 750mi/month since I got her in March. It's an evening and weekend car that will get stored in the arctic Minnesota winters.

OK then so your not likely going to reach the service point before the car gets stored then so I'd get the oil changed
