| dan, just wondering if this "service campaign" that i had done had any positive/negative/no effect on the performance of my 2005 slk350 (purchased in 8/05...) or if my car could have been negatively affected before this notice. i'm assuming the fuel/air mixture was too lean during cold conditions so they made it more rich? the service guy made it sound like it was nothing at all and it's here are the details of the letter that i received in 12/06: "Dear Mercedes-Benz Owner, This notice is sent to you requesting that you bring your vehicle to your Mercedes-Benz dealer as soon as possible. In our continuing erfforts to assure the proper performance of Mercedes-Benz products and to ensure the satisfaction of our customers, Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC has initiated a Service Campaign for certain Model Year 2005-2006 SLK-Class, C-Class, CLK-Class, and E-Class vehicles. Our records show indicate that your vehicle is included in the population of affected vehicles. DaimlerChrysler AG (DCAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that the software for the engine control unit needs to correct a potential malfunction which could lead to an incorrect fuel/air mixture during low outside temperatures. Under certain conditions, this can have a negative effect in starting the engine. As a precautionary measure, this Service Campaign will address the issue by upgrading the engine control unit software. This measure will be performed at no charge. This Service Campaign does not cover any other components, to which standard warranty terms and exclusions apply. Your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer is available to provide this service, free of charge. The working time required is approximately one hour. As a matter of normal service process, your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will also check for other repair measures which might be applicable to your vehicle and this may increase the required working time. Please contact your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience. Please mention Service Campaign #2006-110002. If you are no longer the vehicle owner, or had a change of address, please complete the reverse side of this letter and return the complete letter in the enclosed envelope. If this is a leased vehicle and the lessor and registered owner receives this notice, please forward this information by first class to the lessee. Please contact your authorized Mercedes-Benz should you have any questions or encounter any difficulty regarding this program. If your dealer is unable to remedy your situation, or is unable to perform this service without charge, please call 1-800-FOR-MERCedes (1-800-367-6372). We hope that you are enjoying your Mercedes-Benz and we apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of this issue." |

| Hi, There have been cases where the software has caused the cars to feel sluggish after being flashed but this update only modifies the part of the map relating to closed loop operation so once the car gets up to temp the system should return to normal. There have been way more cases of the flash corrupting parts of the EEPROM but that happens the moment the flash gets installed so if your not getting piss poor running real weird errors and loss of control of systems then its not effected you. There will have been no harm done to your car running the old software this mod is only for starting in properly cold conditions and in my view is total over-kill it should have been done during services SC's are for safety related issues and should be kept that way. The SA was right its really nothing major and for sure nothing to worry about.
