| Hi Dan, I am new, just got my 2005 SLK55 last Thursday. I have been reading on different retrofits and am interested in adding Comand and possibly SAT radio and NAV. It looks like I will need the Comand head unit and the Audio Gateway. Since I have a 2005 US car it should be prewired for everything. The question I have is will there be a connection for the Audio 20 speakers in the footwell where the AG goes? So is the HU and AG all that is required? I am aware that SAT radio and NAV require more stuff but right now I would just like to get Comand working. Are there two different Audio Gateways for HK system and non HK? I guess one thing that will be different for me is that I want a US HU that does NOT do video but instead has SAT radio. Thanks for any help. |

| Hi, Your are right with the parts mate just the audio gateway and the headunit i would recomend the HK AGW not the standard unit there is a seperate PN for each of them so you can pick whatever one you want. Problems start once it comes time to fit basically here's the things that need to be done. Antenna cable needs to be moved MOST fiber needs to be moved and new links added CAN to be moved Speaker connections to get moved Power connection needs to be added Various plugs to be replaced It can be done and the moving of the connections just means soldering extensions onto the wires, the MOST fibers will need to be clamped and extended, ant can be moved without much hassle it runs the right way anyways the difficult bit is the power you will need to create some new circuits to properly power the gateway it has high power demands and uses more than one connection to power. Replacing connections should be OK just a matter of removing the old plugs and adding new ones.

| Thanks for all the info. I guess I was hoping that mine was going to be prewired for the AG in the footwell. Not sure I want to get that deep into it in a pretty expensive car (for me at least). Thanks and again...I might put up the passenger side footwell kickplate when I get home from work to take a look. |
