| OK guys, get your minds out of the gutter (I've been lurking here long enough to know how some of you think LOL!) Dan, I do not park my car with the top down, therefore I find myself raising and lowering it two to three times daily. Will this much use 365 days a year cause the mechanicsms to wear or create any problems? And to you other guys... I was going title this thread "I think I'm taking my top off too much!" but I'm really not that kind of girl. |

...you're going to fit in here just fine 280Lady!I don't know if this is correct advice, but as for your "top", I've opened/closed mine 4 times daily the 9 months or so I lived in Vegas and it didn't seem to affect it. I think it amounts to "If you don't use it, you lose it." Or something like that.

Trying to be careful wording this bit here but basically so long as you keep the mechanism lubricated and don't operate the pump for longer than designed for instance you lower the roof then decide to raise it again straight away only to go ahead and lower it again then you will be fine. Its just a pump that uses hydraulic fluid to operate 2 rams nothing fancy just keep it moving freely and you should have no problems

| Thank you Dan. Is this easy to do? How is it done and how often should it be done? Designo, V8 and Etyu, thank you too. Herve (or should it be Perve? ), NO! |

If you lubricate the seals every month because they come under more stress then the mechanism. You can get the stuff for the seals from MB i think it was either me or Etyu who posted the PN i cant remember sorry my memory is real bad i will get it from work in the morning for you, with the mechanism use some WD40 with the straw attached and get it all in the joints on the metal supports. There are a few hidden under the side panels but since they are better shielded i would only bother working on them every 6 months ish and you can either remove the panels yourself or have MB clean them up for you if you don't fancy taking your car apart.

| Dan, I kept some notes. It was your post. Here are the part nos. and description: A 001 989 50 51 Lubricant for seals, A002 989 07 51 Multigrade grease for metals Personally, I was using some leftover Gummi Fledge (rubber lubricant, silicone base) from BMW on the rubber seals. I may have done this 2 to 3x in the past 11 months. Easty recommends Carbaflo, BMW part no. 83 23 0 309 627, which is available from BMW but not MB. I've only lubricated the hinges to the trunk/boot lid once in the past 11 months. There are either 6 or eight points to each side. I used leftover Mobil 1 engine oil that I've placed in an old fashioned tin oiler (available from any auto store). I use only one drop per hinge point for the trunk/boot hinges and thought the hinges were a bit too slippery after that as it seems the trunk lid wants to come back down when it's open about 8 to 10 inches. You could ask MB to lubricate the roof mechanism and seals when you go in for service. Tell them the roof squeaks occasionally and they'll usually do it without charge. I believe it may have been cyberdrakon that said this, but I'm not sure. Hope the above helps.

| Nice one Eddy cheers mate! That lid wanting to drop could be fixed by adjusting the dampers if it annoying you mate, i think to have a properly cared for roof is worth it myself. Also just remembered there are hinges on the roof side of the system also slk girl so just remember that when your doing it.

| Dear Lady, Please leave the top up. Otherwise you may lose your nick. What does it mean? Lady - understood. 280 - 28 years, 0 kids? Every mechanical thing which is used very often will break earlier than a thing which is used rare. Today German engineering is not the same than 20 year ago. |

| Welcome.... I use mine 3 or 4 times a day and never have a problem using it. If your motor is not turned on, I have heard if you do it too much you can run down your battery. I have not run into that issue. SLKman

| haha you get rep points. As for the roof, i used mine about 6 or 7 times a day, up and down, so a total of maybe 10 or 14 uses a day. (I would never park with top down for more then ten mins, or high density, for fear of someone spitting or like pouring soda in there). |
