Default fill pipe buffer?

dan, i noticed a protrusion into the right rear wheel well. it seems to run under where i believe the gasoline fill pipe runs. as i had rubbing there with the 19 inch wheels and i am going back to 19's, my question is... if i tap out that little protrusion, is there a gap between it and the fill pipe? i don't want to alter it if there's a potential to create and unsafe condition in the gas tank.

as usual, thanks!!!

Well the fuel pipe turns sharply down to enter the fuel tank just there but on the UK version at least there is space to remove any lumps and bumps that might be in the well without damaging the pipe.

Not sure about the US version because there is a lot more emissions crap all around the tank, the best thing you can do is remove the side liner in the trunk you will be able to see the fuel pipe and if you get your hand under it and feel for the well you should be able to tell if you have space or not.

As you say you don't just wanna tap it out and damage the line i think you would be very unlucky to actually rupture it but you could move it out of alignment and give it a nasty ding that would mean when you fill up the fuel enters the trunk not the pipe.

Its not too hard to remove but its not the easiest thing either the back wall of the trunk just in front of the tank pops out easy but technically to remove the sides as quickly as possible the trunk should be put into the service position and supported by an arm.

What i would do is ask the dealer to pop the cover out for you since they have the tools to do it without damaging anything then you can have a feel around the pipe and well whenever you get the chance once your done just have them pop the cover back on it should take them no more than 10 minutes.

If you wanna remove it yourself give me a shout and i will see what i can do with documents and stuff

it was really pretty simple, all i had to do was pull the liner back a few inches and i was easily able to feel and see the fill pipe. there's at least an inch of gap between it and the wheel well, so i think i'll be just fine...thanks again dan.

Ah thats cool.

Was not sure how much flex you would have and theres always the risk of damaging the seals.
