Default R170 Brake Pads

Hey Dan!

I finally got the SLK here and its been determined I have to replace the rear brake pads before they will complete the registration.

Since I'll be braking from much higher speeds, I need to get different pads than I normally would for the US. I want to do both front and back.

I'm sure I could get them at the local MB dealer, but from my experience the parts guys get tripped up because of it being a US spec.

If I wanted to use part numbers for a Euro spec, would there be any hiccups in getting the right parts? Or are there parts I can get for higher speeds from the States? (Anyone of you guys across the pond can fill me in if you know on this last part.)

Thanks!

I am not aware of there being different pads mate but then we have the Euro EPC so it might only show the one.

For the 230 she shows A0044200220 (Front Pad Set) and we have 2 different sets for the rear A0014209520 and A0044201720 so i would need a VIN before i can tell you what one of those 2.

There will be no fitment issues at all mate and should the parts guys get a little touchy with your car being a US spec i will be happy to order them for you if you want.

Great Dan! Just curious though. What was the difference b/w the two? And what's the ££ on the fronts?

There was a design change and a VIN cutoff point so i needed your number to compare with the list.

Front's are £34.43

It also shows the rears as a kit now where as the early ones have a parts list.

Great, I'll see if I have any issues with the local dealer first.

A side question/note to this. When they did the inspection, he said the inner rt pad was worn much thinner (hence not being passed) than the outer. From my experience this is an idication of the caliper not squeezing evenly, yes? Am I looking at a new caliper? Or can i do something to loosen her up? Also, I've done brakes before, but not on this. Are there any tricks or are they pretty straightforward?

Likely culprits calipers or disks less likely system pressure problems things of that nature.

Are they all doing the same thing or are we just talking about one or both of the rears?

I didn't get to physically look at them myself, I was on my cell convicing Vodafone to make a bad situation better, but that's another story. Anyway, he said it was the right, rear, inside pad that was very thin.

I would just replace the pad then get it inspected down the line it could just be this pad but if it happens to the replacement then look at the disk if that does not help check out the caliper
