Is there any rush for this mate?

We don't have procedures for a full disassembly i will have to work something out with a tech about how to do it on Monday.

Sorry

Hi Edward,

Was chatting with one of the guys today and mentioned this to him and i while i will check with the others Monday its not looking too good.

Thing is MB call it sealed but from experience both me and him know this not to be true (we have seen them fall apart many a time) only thing is we don't know how its supposed to come apart because we have never actually had t do this and since MB call it sealed they don't publish procedures.

I would imagine its a case of stripping all the bulbs out and removing the plastic from the back case but i cant say for sure how this is done.

Will post up again Monday after asking the others.

Hi there

On the subject of lighting, my nearside (nonAMG) fog light lense is cracked, doesn't look like something hit it, but it would be difficult to prove that it is a faulty assembly. Might have cracked using it a lot in the fog before Xmas.

How easy do you think it would be to replace myself ?

Many thanks

Hi mate the NON-AMG fogs have a lense cover I think it was about 20$ from the dealer. And if it's anything like the AMG fog it's just a couple of screws to remove the plastic mesh then you can access it.

The reason I know is that I wanted a replacement fog and they tried to sell me a NON-AMG cover. the AMG fogs dont have a cover and the whole light needs replacing at about $180. ;(

Ditto to what easty said mate its real simple to do.

Edward, Not really sure how to take the unit itself apart mate sorry its not something we have done ourselves before but as i say they do come apart so a little exploration might be needed.

Sorry about that mate.

right then...

bought the lense... 10 quid. Had a look at the fog light, I can't work out how to get at it, do I approach it from the front by removing the small black grill? I can only find one screw which I think adjusts the angle. There is a conical piece of plastic which pokes thro a hole and that will snap inwards, but other than that I am lost.

Any ideas .... thanks alot in advance.

It should just be clipped on mate you should be able to see the 3 clamps in front of the cover.

I must be pretty dumb.... I am looking at the grille from the front of the car and cannot see any clips, just the angle adjustment, and a hole and inside the hole is a small nut and bolt...

Guess I will have to give up and go to the dealers...

Thanks for all your help

How about checking from behind the fog lamp mount? Turn the front wheels towards the opposite side, remove 2 silver bolts from the bottom (holds the rubber wheel well cover to the flat bottom plastic) and two black bolts at the wheel well. Flex the rubber wheel well cover and see what it looks like from behind. (same procedure as changing the front fender lamps for US models)

hey guys, back to the origin of this thread, the headlight comes out of the car via several bolts from the back the headlight (hard to reach). the clear peice in front has several clips that you can just pry off. the next step is a bitch, apparently, it has some sort of sealant all around the edge of the light. i'm gonna try a heat gun and see if it'll come apart.

I would use etyu's idea mate thing is merc say the fog has to come out to replace the cover so it could be a bit of a pain in the ass, you should be able to access the bolts from the back of the unit and just push it out if need be.

The clips should be visible but maybe the alignment of the grill is blocking them or something

Well it was a pain in the ass ! Well the fingers and knuckles mainly. I used Etyu's approach from inside the wheel arch, it was a bit of a fiddle but got there in the end, lost a bit of flesh from my fingers but probably saved a wedge of labour charges from the dealer.

Thanks for you help guys.

Glad it worked out. How about some details or step-by-step narrative for those who may be doing this in the future? Some tips on things not to do or things to do would be much appreciated.
