The wife and I went to the AMG Private Tour Scottsdale stop this morning. It was held at Schumacher European. We had a really good time.

The first stop was a big AMG mobile structure. Inside were refreshments, comfy leather chairs, a CL63 AMG, a "test your knowledge" game and several displays featuring AMG parts. The event started out with a nice presentation. It was a guy talking up AMG's, the company history and showing us a few video clips. There were maybe six short clips, each with a soundtrack of AMG engines revving on the street or racetrack. The videos were on a pair of 50" plasmas.

Then we moved on to the dyno. They had a white CL63 strapped down for us to pound on. Two runs per person: 0 to 60 in auto mode, and 0 to 100 using the paddle shifters. I didn't do too well, but was praised for my paddle shifting accuracy. I hit the target RPM shift points dead-on. My times were 4.0 and 10.0. Fastest I saw was a guy who hit 100 in 8.2. They said he had the record that day so far.

We then moved on to the test drives. Available were: 2 SL63's, 2 C63's, an E63 and a CL63. The wife took out the C63 and I hopped into the SL63.

There was a professional driver in each car with us. My guy was an Aussie who currently lives and races in LA. Interestingly, there was a very hot blonde in the other SL. Guys were jockeying in line to try to get in her car! My driving partner said she was an awesome race driver who could "really wheel a car".

We had about 10 minutes in each car, which included local roads and a short highway sprint. I got on the peddle a bit, but we were warned not to jump on it too much.

I liked the SL. It had much better seats than my SLK, and the torque was right there tempting you the whole way. The wife really liked her time in the C63 as well. I am pretty sure she was more timid than I with the peddle.

Next we looked at a few of the parked AMG's they had laying around. Then we filled out an exit survey and got a few hats and other trinkets. I collected a neck lanyard with an AMG branded container on it for ear plugs, a few AMG hats, a brochure\application to the performance driving events in Germany and an AMG DVD.

They said it took nine semis to haul the event around the country. I am really glad they did.

All in all it was a fun 90 minutes. The bad thing is that now I don't know which AMG to get next!!

Nice! I fondly remember tearing around a track in those same cars during another AMG promo event a last month in Dallas. The sound of the SL63 is simply amazing!
