I'm the lucky Houston C55 owner with blown engine: http://www.mbworld.org/forums/showth...15#post2871415

I'm interested in trading notes. I'm a newbie here and can't pm. If interested in comparing responses from MBZ, can you pm me with contact into?
Thanks,
Clif

UPDATE - My Engine arrived today, they have started the replacement and hope to have it installed and ready to roll in a few days. It was night time when this occurred, about 11:30pm. I dont think temp was a factor, but it does seem this "little" motor generates some impressive heat, I know when I come to a stop and have the top down, you can feel the heat when the breeze picks up.

I will be REALLLLY glad to be back in my SLK, getting bored with the c300

Clif, hows yours coming along, Im down in San Antonio, had my 55 towed into MB Boerne, their service department was top notch, had a loaner ready for me within minutes of my arrival. I read the posts over at MBworld, am pretty confident overfill wasn't an issue with mine either, as several hundred miles lapsed from topoff to problem. wish you well, and let us know the outcome.

Good luck. The same thing could happen to anyone of us. We're all in this together. Any verdict on the cause?

Picked her up today, same name on placard... I asked about that and the response i got was, "well we didn't replace the covers" So I asked how do you know who built the second engine?....All I got was a blank stare and a few blinks...

Also noticed that the tech somehow scuffed up the headlight assemblies there are tons of scratches all over the clear plastic covers, looked at the paint around the hood and didnt see any scratches.. when I pointed it out to my SA, he said they would take care of it... rather irritating that an $80,000 car goes into the shop and comes back with additional damage. Im taking photos tonight and emailing them to the service manager.

otherwise the car seems to be running great, I had them set my alarm to netherlands to enable the beep. I haven't really gotten on her much yet, not sure if this new block needs any break in period, or it they run them at the factory prior to shipping out...

been a rough few weeks... after driving a sedan around for almost a month, I may end up getting another daily driver and keeping the SLK for weekend fun. havent decided, I sure did miss the sound of that 55 engine purring on the highway

DansSLK stated in the past that the AMG engines are run on the bench routinely before shipping out. Glad to know that the ride is back. Give it a good work out.

Good news, you're back. I hope your SLK driving experience will be trouble free. Sorry to hear of the damage to your headlight assemblies. That's better than paint damage, easier to repair or replace. Makes sense on the engine placard. I'm sure you would like to know the builder.

I wonder if it is a real person named on the card?

You can imagine that they work in teams, and each team has a "name".

Glad you got her back, I know how painful the wait can be for an engine replacement. Mine can with a new name on it, don't know if they replaced the covers or just the placard. It is 1 engine/1 person at AMG, no teams as far as I know. A couple of people on the site have said they met the tech that built their engine. IIRC

Even though I live in Germany, I have a good friend of mine that works at this dealership. I've also ordered a bunch of accessories from them. I'm going to email him your post, I'm sure he'll pass on the good words. I'll be in SATX and plan to make a visit to them to pass on my thanks for their support to a customer on the other side of the world...

I was lucky enough to meet the gentleman who built my motor. He was an older gentleman (Wolfgang Hartmann), I'd prefer someone with experiance. Makes me sleep better although they (AMG) have an super QC program along with the rest of MB

So was the cause of the engine failure ever determined?

I haven't heard anything back from my S.A. I need to run it back over my driverside seat heater & airscarf are not working, probably just a fuse, but I will let them look at it since it still in warranty

If they have any news I will post...
