well I took the plunge on as SLK55

just picked up an 06 SLK55 in silver. so far I'm loving it. I picked the wife up for dinner and as i pulled in there was a vette z06 in the lot, when i parked and walked up to the outdoor seating area a guy walked up to me and said "man nice car, when I saw the AMG body I knew it was the real deal" he then went on to tell me what a nice car it is and wanted to trade keys for a test drive in his vette! haha I explained that I had only picked the car up 6 hours ago, and wasn't interested

when he and his buddy left they stopped by for a peek and took pics with their phones... I have to say thats pretty impressive for the first drive in my new ride! I will post photos soon, is this normal or did I just happen to find zealous car nuts on my first stop

maybe the dealer hired them as part of the mercedes "total comfort package" I iwill meet random people that reinforce what a great thing it is to own an SLK, all put on my MBUSA

haha ok back to reality.... anyway I want to say thanks to everyone who gave me input and helped in my decision making process. I think the first few mods will be easy stuff, radio antenna, roof module. then maybe on to something more challenging, LSD hinges? at any rate this should certainly be more fun than my H2 I traded in!

The nice car compliment is not uncommon.

Definitely need the SmartTop module and the modified R170 antenna.

This fall my boss and I and our wives went for a fall foliage drive. He has a Porsche. We made stops at various places in the park and took photos of the leaves and the cars.

When we looked at the photos later, at one of our stops with our cars parked side by side the photo revealed someone was evaluating the SLK. I didn't notice anyone looking at the Porsche.

This past weekend we went out to eat at our local Pizza Hut. The waitress rushed over to us and said they saw the SLK drive up. It was her "dream car".

Yes, I think you will find a lot of positive comments.

I'm not sure I would ever switch keys with anybody. If it is a stranger, for all you know they just stole that Z06 and were looking for an upgrade...

Congrats JM you won't regret choosing the 55. You will be quite surprised how many heads it will turn because unlike the Vettes and Porsches which seem to be everywhere (at least in ATL) you don't see many SLKs on the road and especially AMGs. Have fun and enjoy.

WOW! its just so fun to drive! i have been making excuses today at the office to go run errands just so I can get on the road. such a huge difference from the H2 (as to be expected) its like going from a freight train to an fighter jet.

I hope we will continue to have top down weather for at least the next few day

Congrats on ur purchase! Funny thing i came from a z06 to the slk 55 that i have now and i can tell u that i get way more attention in the slk than i did in the corvette (especially from the ladies!) and i had a huge camshaft in it that would shake the ground while it was running! A little caution on the lsd doors though. I work at an accessorie/performance shop we have worked on a few cars that have had the lsd doors installed and the customers were not happy with the way they worked at all! The shocks would go out constantly! One of the cars was a 04 sl600.

I was at the gas station two days ago pumping gas. The guy at the next pump was eyeing my car the entire time he was pumping his gas into his audi tt convertible. When he finished his pumping, he walked over and said "man, nice car..." and proceeded to look inside the window and take a walk around. I said his car was nice too, but i was just trying to be nice... i didnt really mean it
