Default Rims Poll!

I am considering replacing my P30 heavyweight rims with some nice, lightweight rims. So, I was thinking so many SLK owners here already have replaced their factory rims, why not take a poll and see what's up? So, poll: If you have replaced your factory rims, which non factory rims do you have?

I havent replaced my wheels but here goes what I like are the:

Brabus Mono Block S wheels

Brabus monoblock IV 2 peice

O.Z Superlegga III's

Carlsson U/16 UL Wheels

Checkthem out, each one has their own unique styling and they all look classy and yet sporty at the same time.

I have the TSW Bremmas in 18" but they aren't exactly super lightweight.

If I were going to get something light, I would go for O.Z. Superleggera IIIs for sure Member "V8SLK" has them on his car. Check out his garage.

I'd go for Oz ultraleggaras...

What's your budget on wheels?

Not sure yet...My tires are brand new so I guess I don't need new tires. No problem transferring them, yes?

I haven't begun pricing rims. the ultraleggaras are expensive? or are there nicer rims you are thinking of?

It's a stripped down version of the superleggera...it's about 5 lbs lighter, but comes in limited sizes, you may have to call around to find it. The fronts would use the same tires. You might want to stick with ultraleggeras in the back though.

I think they are one of the lightest cast rims for our cars.

If you have a larger budget, there are a lot of Forged rims to choose from these days...

I have 19" DCR hockenheims, it's about 23lbs fronts and 26lbs rears, not ultralight but not as heavy as Brabus and OEM's.

Speaking of rim weight, what actually are the weights of the AMG 030 and normal AMG rims? Would the stock AMG rims be heavier, lighter, or the same weight compared with DCR, HRE, and DPE wheels?

Interesting question. How much heavier are the 030 wheels than stock? Is there a true (day to day) benefit to more expensive, lighter wheels, other than a mind set? Price vs weight vs personal choice, so many choices. For me, appearance is more important.

Same as Don, appearance is the more important features.

I have the multispoke AMG rims for the time being, and would like to change.

Btw, don, i haven't found in the forum the brand of your rims (the best, appearance point of view, for me).

I've been reading around and there are a lot of people who think cast rims have a better chance of bending and that forged rims don't and are the way to go. thoughts?

Michel, the wheels I have are 19" TSW Bremma. You can find them on eBay, available in 17", 18", 19" and 20". I'm really happy with the quality and look of these wheels. I feel 19" are the best size for the SLK.

IIRC OEM rims are around 30lbs each, I think someone over at mbworld.org weight them some time ago, so a search might yield the correct answer

Forged wheels are lighter, stronger, and if appearance is your thing, by far the best looking wheels on the market. I'm a firm believer of, "you pay for what you get."

It doesn't look like it's all CF, just overlayed with CF, that's probably a good thing, I don't trust pure CF to support the whole car yet.

Ynot. yes, sorry. they are overlayed with CF. $1640 per rim, minimum!....CF is brittle. can't understand how boeing made their dreamliner completely out of it. that thing crashes and the plane will shatter and crumble.

That's too much just for cosmetics, stick with DPE, iForged, and DCR, much cheaper, you can get a set of four for the price of two 360 forged wheels.

Thanks. I went with the Michelin PS 2s, 235x35x19 front and 265x30x19 rear.
