I agree, I'm still not a fan of solid black wheels b/c they look like spares, but with pin stripes or polished lips, then it's okay with me.

I am checking out so many different rims and I was wondering. How does one decide on the width of the tires? 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9 or more. I'm sure they have to do with traction and ride quality. What is best for a medium soft ride and best hugging performance on curves?

Does anyone have 18"s in the front and 19" in the rear? That was the case on my leased 911s.

thank you.

I don't think anyone here has 18F/19R. I considered it once but the side profile would be quite different front to back and therefore look strange.

Tire size will determine the width of the wheel. You want something that fits right otherwise you might stretch or squeeze the tire on which isn't a good thing. I'd recommend either 8 or 8.5 width in front and 9.5 in the rear. Tire sizes of 225 or 235 front and 255 or 265 in rear.

Thank you DSB...It's getting clearer now...Have you seen the HRE C20 charcoal forged rims. They are pretty nice. Is charcoal similar to Anthracite which is a sort of gray? No doubt could get Caspian blue on the lip. Would it look silly just to get the lip painted but not the polished inside between the lip and center? These are way recessed compared to stock P30s.

You can't run different rim sizes on the SLK i doubt ESP would even let you past a walking pace.

You could if the overall diameter is the same (ie 225/40/18 and 265/30/19). I wouldn't do it but could if wanted. Like I said earlier, it would look strange with such a different profile thickness front to back.

PtoB,
I think the painted lip might look great. I would take a look at Porsche and BMW forums. Chances are, you'll find a car with wheels you're describing. Then, you might have a better idea of what it would look like on your MB.

Thanks dsb...I'll take a look around. I'm also looking at enkreuz rims someone else had mentioned. same design as the HRE C20 below but in matte gunmetal or brushed aluminum and same in the center cap. forged multipiece rim $4800/set.....probably cheaper than HRE.that swiss flag I don't necessarily like now that I look at it.

Yeah i did see your mention of that in your first post but i did not associate it with the ESP at the time.

I get what you where trying to say now, would anybody actually drive like that?

at the risk of sounding like a broken record, i really like my oz wheels. they are super light, very strong and i've really grown to like their look. they are three piece wheels so they are available in any width and offset and different color centers are available.

Scott, those are in the top of the list wheels for the SLK including the C20 Hre's and Carlsson U/L16's.

porschetobenz, for a blue car brushed alluminium might look better than matte grey.

That setup will only look good if your sports car is long b/c it's harder to tell the difference and with big lips, 18F and 19R actually looks right b/c 18F and 18R with big lips always makes the Rear looks small. Our SLK is too short for that look

Charcoal is light gray and anthracite is dark gray, that's how I look at it.

Here's what color lips will look like.

Here's one with no lips but painted sides.

There are a lot of good looking wheels similar to HRE and cost 1/3 of the price, also look at DCR, DPE, and iForged.

Thanks Ynot...clored lips look good but IMO make the cars look like tuners. Black/grey rims look sweet on black and white cars....Prob. stick with brushed aluminum on my caspian blue. I see gunmetal as an option here and there but haven't seen an actual rim of it.

No, you make a good point. Those are great wheels and are available through many chains. IIRC, the Ultraleggeras are even lighter but I think they match other makes better.

Here's a weak cut n paste example of the black HRE monoblocks are our cars:

Bigkevo,

I'm glad you're happy with those wheels. They do look great. BUT, before you go ordering them... What brand are they? Also, $6000 US? If so, that's quite a bit. For that much, I hope you have already compared them (cost, performance, and looks) to other major manufacturers. At that price point, there's a lot to choose from.

PS. Be sure to update your profile and welcome to the forum.

they sound very expensive...and i would argue against 20"...however it is your choice and if your happy then go for it!! they aer a nice wheel with a very impressive rear dish. i think a good deep dish makes a wheel!!!

Bigkevo, I agree with the members 6,000 dollars seem to be pretty much expensive for those wheels.

I do hope they are forged and are light wheels as a 20" cast wheel can drastically affect your cars performance, overall weight and braking; However I have to admit they look pretty good on the SL and since the SL and SLK share many styling similarities I am sure it will look phenominal.

Congradulations on the new wheels
