| Ok could no longer resist posting. I have had my 2005 SLK55 AMG for less then two weeks now, don’t even have the title work back from DMV, and I have been wanting to do the intro stuff on the site for the last few days but have just been to darn busy. The name is Joe and I am from Maryland, I live in a little waterfront community just North East of Baltimore called Bowley’s Quarters. This is my third SLK, and yes “my bad” for just learning about this site L so go easy on me ok! It appears that I have number 482 of just 832 2005 U.S. SLK55 AMG’s, quite frankly I was extremely surprised to learn of the low number. I will post an official intro and pics soon. So here is the rest of the story. I purchased a Black 2004 SLK 230 Special Edition at the end of 2004. As a matter of fact I had to search long and hard to find a 04 Special Edition since they were getting real hard to find, to the credit of my dealer they went above and beyond locating and then arranging the transfer. When the 2005 came out I hesitated because I really loved my 230 SE so I held off as long as I could but I succumbed in October 2006 when I purchased a Black SLK 280. Gas mileage was a big factor for me so I was very pleased with getting 28-30 MPG. I had no AMG envy except that I did miss the sport suspension and performance tires that came with the 230 SE. Then it happened; a friend of mine was given two weeks notice that he was being deployed and was leaving the day after Memorial Day. Based on several circumstances he was forced to part with his Black 2005 SLK55 AMG. Well I was his first lead when locating a new owner, since he knew how I cared for my MBs, just one test drive and it was all over. Yes I am now the proud owner of two SLK’s, which reminds me to mention that my Black 2006 SLK 280 is now looking for a new home. I would give it to the wife but she just ordered and took delivery of a 2007 Mustang convertible and in her words you will have to pry this car from my cold dead hands; but that’s a whole other topic .As I said I did not have AMG envy but now that I am the proud owner of one I feel that I am at the pinnacle of what a roadster should be and driving it is more pleasurable then anything legal should be. oh yeah I have just started my drug regiment .So let me get to your dilemma. I became a SLK55 owner not by envy but I can tell you without reservation; if you can swing “go for it” you will not be sorry! |

| Welcome and congratulations JoesSLK55. Warning: Test drive the SLK55 at your own risk. It is not about envy but an affliction.

Yes I guess this does give me a unique perspective on the various SLK models . To answer your questions both the 230 SE and the 280 were autos a must because I commuted through Baltimore, Wash DC and No. Virginia rush hour traffic .Oh my there were many reason why I liked the SLK55 over the SLK280 but the most obvious are the power, handling and looks. But these things come at a price, the first being fuel mileage 28-30 vs. 15-18. Then the ride, the SLK280 actually rides smoother but does not handle or corner as well. And last but not least is going to be the tire wear will be lucky to get 15k miles from the SLK55 tires (as it was with my SLK230 SE) from the looks of them the SLK280 might see 30+ K. Thanks again, and a D#% good question ![]() Joe

1. There ain't no shops in heaven! 2. There ain't no luggage straps on a hearse (funeral car) So, spend it while you can - you can't take it with you! Of course, (as my wife told me) this theory relies on you havin' your fun and dying young... hahahahahahahahah
