Default 2008 Slk55 Amg

A couple of notes, they stopped production of SLKs in Feb, three months ahead of schedule...why?...who knows. But, there are NO plans to put the 6.3 into the SKL...they would need to redesign the whole drive train, particularly the traction control system....the comment to me was "we'd go broke replacing tires under warrenty"...BUT, the interesting thing is that AMG is taking ALL production of engines in house...they use to take the basic blocks from MB and then work their magic...now they are building all engines in-house from the ground up

that's baloney, getting tires replace under warranty will never happen, it's part of normal wear and tear, they will just tell you to stop stepping on it. I doubt if much will change for the 08' SLK55's besides a minor facelift.

There is talk about some sort of interior changes... from what I've heard, they are ditching the silver painted buttons. But that doesn't make any sense.

The nose on the front-end is going to be more forward and upright, with some minor tweaks to the grill mesh behind the "wings."

The tailpipes are going to be re-shaped into something more rectangular.

All very minor changes from what I've found.

5.0 306 V8 engine from the 500 range of MB , then AMG works on it to increase its bore x stroke so that it gets to 360hp and other changes.

I kinda like them the way they are: oval.

From what I've heard, all of these "rumored" changes are not for this year, if at all.

I would welcome some changes at the four year point. New style wheels, minor body refinements, improved electronics (Bluetooth and NAV), changes to justify going from a 2006 to a 2008. I would imagine we'll see some changes in 2008. Just don't mess it up.

Default 2008 slk

the point of the post was not that there will be big changes between 07 and 08, mostly modest styling EXCEPT that AMG is now making all engine from ground up...they are not tuning MB engines as you could say they are now. The demand for AMG is sufficiently large to warrent the investment

They might of stop production to keep the numbers of the car down, theve already made more then they did 170's i believe. They may want to keep them as "rare" as possible, to keep price up, and or resale etc, for leases and stuff.

If Ferrari's made produced as many cars as Ford, they wouldnt be as much as they are.

I don't have any info to suggest any changes to the 55 or 65 engines.

It doesn't work quite as suggested AMG don't take 500 blocks and work on each one to produce the 55 in the old days they would simply mod one block test it then have the factory produce the rest so there where 5.0 and 5.4 engines being separately delivered to MB and AMG its very cost-ineffective to up each engine by hand and there is no way that would have ever been allowed to happen for a production car with DC calling the shots.

Nowadays they simply work on the CAD drawings to make the changes and then go right to production of parts just like the standard engine the only difference is the standards are machine assembled and the AMG's are hand assembled.

The only AMG in-house baby is the 63 designed from the ground up by them.

IF IF IF the slk gets the 63, price would be about the same, it would be more cost effective to dump the 55 engine and replace with the 63 in about a year anyway...so they can focus on producing one engine. with the c63 coming in, and the 55 struggling to pass the upcoming emissions regulations, SOME changes will be coming, although change is not always good. Also the excuse about not being able to fit the fuel pumps is total BS. I'm sure they could get it to fit. it's more a problem of either some obcsure regulation, or just a matter of marketing. for example, if they installed run flat tires as standard, they could move the battery to the back, and the fuel pumps either underneath (obviously seperated by metal), or the fuel pumps could go where the battery used to go. it would also help in weight distribution.

Turbos have long been rumoured to be coming in the AMG camp...but that's quite a leap, however the slk would be the perfect car to introduce it...i think the next gen slk is likely to get a turbo in at least one spec at least.

Most likely, the discontinuation has more to do with trying to get the old 55 engine up to the new emissions regulations. I believe the most REASONABLE thing to do would be a more efficient exhaust system for more power, but a tuned back ECU for better emissions. they may also be waiting to see what bmw and audi come out with so they can market their HP and torque competitevely.

Also, Dan is right, although the 55 is based on the mb 500 block, it's more a matter of the design of the heads and mounting, and the accesories. AMG has long been using fresh blocks prepped for them directly from the producers pretty much since MB bought them out.

The 2008 model will be the fourth year. Most anticipate some minor body refinement changes. Don't expect any drastic body changes. Each model year continues with updates and improvements other than body styling. The 2008 will be new and improved.

Yes, I cant imagine MB giving the SLK the 63 Treatment.

I got news for you.... Every other housewife here has gotten one. At least the ones with some soul who passed on the Porsche Cayanne. On the beach alone there are 3 black SLK55's, 2 white SLK55, and 5 Silver ones. There is one person (I do not know the gender of) who has dark red SLK55 I've ssen parked around.

Pick up brick here..... Aim.....

Those automatic SLK55's are just such a chick car in Miami!

I think their husbands go in the dealer, "That looks cute. Give me the most expensive one."

Remember: More Ferrari's are sold in the state of Florida then in any entire country in the world.

In a given day, I see as many Bentley's as you see VW Jettas. One of the perks of taxes in the realm of a new Toyota to the city every year. (We're talking loaded Corlla here, not Yaris.)

That's a very interesting statement, Florida is one of my favorite vacation spots. Yes, I do see alot of exotics but I see alot more in SoCal (Southern California) when I visit relatives, maybe I'm not in the right place.
