| I've been a silent participant in your forum for a few months now, just sucking up all the useful dialogue, but I wonder if anyone out there can help. I'm sure I've read somewhere in the forum that it is possible to get the AMG logo on the command at startup rather than the normal MB logo. Any chance of advising how I might do this on my UK spec 07my 55? |

| Brilliant. Wonder why MB don't set it as standard from the factory?? Can't see the point in having one of these beasts and not shouting about it at every opportunity. Once again - thanks. |

| Make sure you use the ECE AMG version for the 171 using the others or the version for the 211 will play hell with the network. The reason its not standard is its not as stable as the MB version. Not that anybody listens to it anymore but AM radio for example is almost guaranteed to make it crash.

| Noted. I did toy with trying the others to see if any new and interesting functionality popped up, but decided to play safe in the end and stick with the obvious one. Are these like profiles for the system or something similar? Whats the difference between the AMG R171 ECE and the non AMG version (other than the splash screen)? What does the US AMg version do for our European cars? |

| They are basically full operating systems and the menu that changes them is like the OS select menu you get when a computer boots up. Using a 211 version will disable the CD Changer and stop the AGW communicating with CAN correctly if you use the US version you will lose video and radio functionality. There are no major changes between the AMG and MB versions they are both meant to do the same thing but are developed separately the AMG version being newer and less stable than the MB one apart from that splash screen there are no differences the user can see only problems with the AMG are TP messages can cause it to crash and so does AM radio but they are minor anyways since they are not very popular. Hope this answers your question mate. Regards Dan

| Not sure how the US Head Unit is set-up but the EU versions have always had both US and ECE software versions installed on them and you could pick either but going for the US version would cause problems. Unfortunately you can't load up versions onto the unit mate its all flashed onto it and the update disks don't contain a whole new image so they can't be used to do the job.

| Just to reiterate for any newbies, MB is aware of the fact that the diag (hidden) menus procedure are posted and that people fool around with them. If you fool around and flash the wrong version for your car, it is quite possible you will not be able to do the keypad sequence to get back to the diag screen to flash it back. Screwing this up, has been pervasive enough that MB posted a TSB to the service departments that when the Flash load is screwed up, the whole COMAND may need to be replaced AND that it is NOT covered under warranty. It would be a $$$ for you to get it fixed. FYI. |

I have the six disc changer. The CD icon doesn't appear, but the CDC does. I'm unable to enable the menu to select the AMG screen on start up. I tried using CDC but no luck Any hints or suggestions?

| Don mate, What do you mean the CD icon does not appear? You should have: Radio CD/MP3 (Depending on disk in drive) CDC CDC wont work because the machine tries to select disk 5 when you press the button and then ignores it for as long as its held down same with the radio it goes to preset 5. You really need to be on CD/MP3 mode one of them should be visible on the Audio page of the COMAND, one thing since your car is an 05 there are 2 things that need to be updated that are not done during service. The navigation processor and the head unit there are service disks to update the parts that come from MB as workshop tools they are cheap disks to buy and its worth doing it before setting the display to AMG since you load a new software version.

| The nav DVD's hold some software that gets downloaded into the cars flash memory to ensure the car is capable of reading the database in the disk. The operating system disks are workshop tools the one for the head unit is normally held by dealers and the navi processor disk is special order, i noticed a large difference in speed when i did all the upgrades to my car and the only things done to the MOST where flashing the software on the AGW, the HU and the NAV

| Apologies to startup in an old post, but is there a way to do this in a ML (W164) with COMAND? |
