Addicted2Speed --- glad you got what you wanted sounds like an awesome car when the mods are completed.
I have had some fast carts in thier day but for us those days are over my reflexes are not as good as they once were but at least I realize it ( most of the time ). We laugh and say that the next ride will be a Buick ( 4 doors ) after we go to the rest home

I very seldom use the cruise control I can usually beat it with my left foot and the parktronic would only be useful to us in parallel parking which we seldom do.
What year is your SL and which model. Saw some writing over the side vents but couldn't make it out.
Hope you get together with Bill and have a great time over there in Florida.
The parking sensors in Bangkok are very useful as parking is always tight and much of it is back-in rather than parallel. I only use cruise control and the distronic on the highway. I like auto brake feature.

The SL is a 55 AMG, 2006.

Hope to see Bill this week.

I always like the style and the idea of MB roadsters, either SL and SLK. However, I am only 32 and I think I am little too young for a SL. People would think that's my dad's car, plus I don't even look like I am 32, still got ID for lottery ticket sometime (>18).
I am happy about the SLK that I have now. 350 vs 55. The 350 is pretty fast for me since the speed limite at US is stupd (65 mhp on the high way). I think I would get a SL when I am > 40.

I have a SLK 200 and a SL55AMG. I really prefer driving my SLK. But, I do miss the extra cockpit space in the SL (behind the seats). I love the Keyless-Go on the SL but I am happier with the CD player's position in the glove box on the SLK.

Obviously the engines of the two machines are about as far apart as you can get. I feel a little guilty about driving the SL with its 10 mpg consumption rate. But, I miss the power to really accelerate in my SLK when passing trucks on Thailand's two lane roads.

My SLK is a right hand drive; my SL is a left hand drive. But, both are best suited to their native roads.

I am happy that I have both.
I agree with you, they both have different categories they fill nicely.

In my view, I prefer the SLK because it is more of a sports car, and that is where I want to be. It doesn't matter with power, when you get big and heavy, it's not sports car tossible.

The SL is a luxury tourer and is good at speed but at more comfort and suits my partner better then myself.

Default SLK350 vs. SL500

I had a '99 SLK, then an '03 SL500, and now an '07 SLK350. I loved the SL500 for the looks (gets lots of attention!), and the high quality of the interior materials. The SLK interior feels a little cheesy by comparison. Bu that's acceptable for a car that's half the price of the SL!
I like the SLK for the engine and the lighter weight which makes it feel more responsive. I also like the size, so I can park it without worrying about someone dinging my doors - a constant problem with my S-Class.
I might end up in an SL again someday, but for now I'm enjoying the ride in my little SLK!

people have different opinions, obviously. you can go talking about used cars all you want, but the fact is : if you have enough for a new one, you don't want to buy a used one. it's as simple as that. i personally, will never buy a car that someone might have used and abused.

Well, i think i got something to said....

First off all, we all love SLK ( That's why we bought it )

Okay, i have several friends driving SL55 AMG and sometimes we hang out and park our car side to side.

And its a huge different looks, people might look at SLK 55 and said WOW !!
But they said Wonderfull !! on the SL ( you know what i mean )

MB has make this worlds rocks with their roadster

But i think my next car will be 911

Had sometimes to learn about Porsche and its different

Hopefully will get 1 oneday.

Peace man !!

I ended up getting a new SLK55 instead of used, because the interest on a very clean used slk 55 cost about the same as getting a new one with the better interest rate. The problem with buying used cars is you can't get them financed at a reasonable rate. And to those that say financing/leasing is bad, it actually makes sense if you think you can do more with that money compared to what you pay in interest...

If i had cash in hand to buy a car, i would buy used.

As an owner of both (thus having no particular bias) I think that the SLK is more ***y looking than the SL.

I really like the 'wide' look of the SL's exterior, however, I hate the way the controls on the interior console are sloped towards the front of the vehicle.
