Actually, you can do a nice job of making your car glass look better and be more resistant to rain and embedded bug spots by simply cleaning it well and waxing it with your favorite wax. Much quicker than the Rain-X stuff, which is pretty labor-intensive. How long it lasts depends on what wax you use. For more than six months after I use Autoglym Hardwax1 on my windows and windshield, water still beads and blows off.
