One can also change the front side markers without removing the wheel (presuming there's only one screw at the rear of the sidemarker bivalve assembly):

1. Turn the front wheel towards the other side.
2. Remove two silver-colored bolts located at the bottom (horizontal black plastic in front of the front wheel well).
3. Remove two black bolts at the side of the front wheel well.

This allows you to flex part of the front wheel well open and reach in to twist off the light connection, unscrew the rear Torx screw (hopefully there's only one: unlike some 2005 and 2009 SLK 55), slowly pivot open from the rear of the sidemarker bivalve assembly.
