Also since i'm still a SLK owner to be and undecided on the pre- vs facelift models. How would you rate interior build, and the audio / ICE / comand system and features vs your older 200?
And i know you'll need to wait until monday but are there any immediate ride or other changes you've noticed with the new car? |
Good questions!
The courts are round the corner from me .. and its funny to have an accurate weather report every day LOL. I am backing Federer, I like his style on court and with the public, a real gentleman.
As far as the look of the interior is concerned I think its very personal, I prefer the black keys on the new model, perhaps because I have been looking at the old ones on the old SLK for 3 years and got too used to them. I also prefer the new controls on the steering wheel. I must say the my copilot friend who drove the car back with me is exactly of the opposite opinion, you have to have a look yourself to decide.
As far as functionality is concerned, The new sat nav is better than the old one. birds eye view, post code recognition make a difference, in addition the toggle map on the right side of the screen when you approach a junction is easier to understand and more detailed. Furthermore i particularly like the additional drawings at the bottom of the screen advising which lanes to use when approaching a junction.
For the audio system the new comand is massively improved. The use of the multimedia system now allows you to use your iPOD and USB sticks and as you know there is a slot for an SD card.
Telephone: the blootooth connection is really good. I spent a few hours on the phone on the way back to the UK and I can confirm that the quality of the voice in the car is really clear, and so is the quality of the reception at the other end. I haven't tested it with the top down, I will let you know.
The pairing is easy and the transfer of the contacts was effortless.
You asked about the difference in the ride. Well.. its difficult to compare, bear in mind that the new SLK is 280 with 17 inches alloys, the old one is 200 with standard 16 inches wheels. The 280 is more nippy, nore responsive, better sound, it feels more solid and has more grip. The direct steering make the handling more precise and the ride is altogether more enjoyable.
Deciding whether to go for a pre or post facelift version is a difficulty task. considering that the exterior is virtually the same, it all depends on how much you like the gadgets above, what sort of deal you can get for an old SLK and how much you like to be up to date with the latest car.
I went for the new face lifted model because of all the above and of the fact that I am in love with SLKs and enjoy playing with new cars
I hope you find it useful
Here are some more pics of the Designo SLK350 in Bremen and of Mercedes Brooklands where I bought my car from
