BTW, if you are in drive and release the brake, does the car inch forward?

Also, I wonder if it could be long lugbolts. Like Ynot mentioned, it is usually a clacking or ticking noise. Maybe your bolts are so long that they are somehow engaging the e-brake. That is just a guess as I am not familar with e-brake assembly.
