Yes! I just tugged harder and harder, pulling away from the glass.
The mirror is attached to the cover and has a power cable (for the cabin lights). When you pull the cover, you should not move more than 2 or 3 inches or the cable will take all the force. So make sure that your hand doen't jolt more than 2 or 3 inches back.
The cable does knock out a bit of trim for the light cluster without any damage.
When you get the cover off, the base looks like you should be able to slide the cover down and then out. Aquascape refers to that method. I wasn't keen on Aquascape's method becuse the screw driver might damage the plastic covers.
Also, it is tempting to grab the mirror instead of the smooth box against the glass. I didn't do that in case it damaged/snapped the mirror swivel joint.
I tried to replace the cover by sliding up and couldn't get it to budge (reverse aquascape method). So I pushed it back the way it came out.
Having said that, the amount of force required does make me think I'm not doing it properly!
