One can always do it manually.

IIRC, my 1998 E class uses the following method: (Warning: Do this only in an open level area, like an empty parking lot)

1. With foot on the brake pedal and the brake engaged, put the transmission on R.
2. Press the exterior mirror switch on the center console to choose the passenger side exterior mirror.
3. Adjust the passenger sided exterior mirror with the lever to the desired position for parking assist.
4. Press the M button (do not press any of the numbers after pressing the M button). <memory feature for the seats and mirrors>
5. Bring the transmission to P.
6. The passenger side exterior mirror should return to the upright position from the parking assist mode.

Try to put the vehicle in reverse (transmission on R ) with the passenger side exterior mirror switch chosen, after the above procedure to see if the parking assist feature works, i.e., the passenger side exterior mirror moves downward. If nothing happens then this feature is not present.

I'll try to do the above procedure to see if it works later tonight and report back.
