Yeah its easy enough to do.
I've not done it personally since i have COMAND but if you do a search on the site you will find others who have installed aftermarket units.
You will lose steering wheel control, the remote display on the combi and set a fault code for CAN but that wont effect the network, i would recommend you take it to a very good installer or do it yourself so you know its done right a bad install could cause damage to other parts of the car.
