"Since its introduction in 1996, BMW has built the Z-series at the company's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. However, the next-generation model will shift production to Regensburg, Germany.

BMW is making the switch in order to accommodate X3 production, as well as the upcoming X6, at the South Carolina plant. The X3 is currently manufactured in Austria. As a result, capacity in Spartanburg is being increased from 140,000 to 200,000 units annually."
