I don't think that I have had one in 20 years. Today's tires are so good...they seem to survive every attack on them. In Bangkok we have to deal with really bad roads and I have yet (in almost 8 years) even seen someone changing a flat.

Both rear wheels gone flat during 2006 Amelia Island Concours Porsche Tour, somewhere on the Navy base.
Plugged the local MB dealer in the NAV, drove down the highway at 50 MPH on the flat tires and had them fixed in about 45 minutes to the tune of $16.05. Got back in time to the end of the Porsche Tour to drink and party.
Only thing that sits in my spare tire well is the air pump. The heavy, stupid spare sits compressed in the garage.

On the 2005, the second day I had it in the US the right rear went flat. I took it off and put it in the Fiero as I didn't want to risk the car in the rain. MB REFUSED to fix the wheel brought in seperately. I was told, and even with the Tele-Aid people on, that I had to have Roadside assistance come out and put my flat tire back on so I can drive in the rain across the causeway, or to put the minispare on. I would have to risk the car, as the Certificate of Origin and other proof were not sufficient that I owned the car. With Roadside Assistance and 3 different dealers arguing with each other, I said **** IT, and drove to the local goodyear shop and paid $35 to have it fixed.
Moral of the story, don't try to do anything yourself of MB gets their panties in a bunch! Better yet, get RUN FLATs and never have to sit on the side of the road!
NOTE: RUN FLAT tires add a lot of road noise. They also add a hell of a lot of steering feel. The ability to not risk yourself when you get a flat, and the performance savings with lighter weight from no spare more then make up for the added noise.
