The SL550 is a larger version of the SLK350 and as we all know they add more options( comfort, storage, different sound system, etc).
It is a much heavier car and the gas mileage is far less than our 350.
SL in feels somewhat less agile but the new ABC suspension lets you drive fairly aggressive, the new 5.5 engine has the same valve timing and dual OH cams as the 350 the exhaust has been improved also so now it has 382 hp and 391fp of torque 0-60 is 5.4.
We liked the look of the hood and grille on the SLK but not sure it would look the same on the SL.
SL550 to SLK350 only real difference is money and ---- Well they are both Merc's and built to perform -- put them on the same track with drivers that know their cars and it would be a horse race
I believe that this would hold true with the SLK55 -AMG v the SL 63 , 65 or55.
The SL's would run out of fuel sooner.
We love both. now I don't know if this will make sense but the SL is grand touring sports car and the SLK is a sports car that you can tour in.
The only reason that we changed is that we plan on touring the US and Canada and hoping to put about 100k miles on this one over the next 3 years in the SL our old bones will probably survive this in the SLK they would not have.
