Default Greed is good, lust is bad.

I could have bought the 350, but because I've never been 100% satisfied with any car I've had, I have this insatiable appetite for power and control. The 55 is so powerful, so scary, so beautiful, that I always want to drive it. But when I'm behind the wheel and driving down the highway with other people gawking and my right foot twitching... I can't bear it. The pressure is intense... do I burn this guy at the light? Didn't I just burn him at the last light? Does this chick like my car, or is she wondering if I'm a master of pleasure? Why do I even car what others think?

I literally grip the wheel and sweat until I get to where I need to be (412driver and -1- can attest to this, they've seen my sweaty shirt when I got out of the car). The AMG may be overkill for me, but since I only have one chance to live life the way I want, I stepped up to the plate.

When you really look at things in perpective, that "dream car" is never too far away. If you've been eyeing a Ferrari since the age of 8, chances are you'll get real close to one by the age of 50. But once you get that Ferrari, that's it. There's nothing better and there's nothing left to set that next goal. Once I get a Ferrari, will I be dissapointed for the rest of my life?

I was badly in love with the SLK55, so I stopped giving my change to the Starbucks baristas and I made sacrifices a long time ago. I did all that because I became mentally ill; bent on getting that "affordable exotic." Now the car sits in my garage, and every morning I come up with excuses to take it rather than the "other car." And a nice day out doesn't cut it anymore. I need to take into account the time of day I'll be going around town... it's really sick.

My AMG fixation has evolved beyond wanting one... it's now come down to how I can make sure I keep the miles off but still take it out for a drive almost every day.

If you really, really want a 55 and you want to experience this persistent battle, go for it. You can still reach for that Ferrari but at least you get close in the meantime. If you stay with the 350, you might never experience such intensity behind the wheel, but that could be a good thing.

I have no regrets because I do know that a Ferrari is still in my sights. I hope the R171 SLK will eventually be as iconic as the Jaguar E-type. It sure would be nice to have an SLK and a Ferrari to contemplate driving each morning.

Unless you want that intensity of that ideal combination of lethal power, speed, and looks, you could just stay with the 350 and keep your sanity!

Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear owns an SLK55. He's also had a Ferrari 355, an SL55, and a Ford GT40, to name a few. More money brings more toys, but he's had the SLK55 the longest and he's a picky fellow with good points. That says a lot to me. I hope this helps cure your AMG disease. I didn't make it and there's probably no cure for it.
