HELP!!!

I bought the SmartTop unit for a UK righthand drive SLK. Unfortunately it has been a bit of a nightmare fitting it.

I seem to have got stuck at parts 8 and 10 of the instruction manual.

Step 8 - It was very diffcult to remove the plug from the socket. I In fact when I removed it, the wires came out from the plug! Is this normal? (first pic)

Step 10 - I tried to fit the plug from the SmartTop unit (second pic) into the original Mercedes socket (3rd pic -3rd socket from the left in this case, there was a plug in the 2nd from left socket but I had to remove it to get to the third plug). But there was no way the plug would fit to the socket.

Please help as my car has spotted a malfunction and the electric seats has ceased having its memory function.
